Coppermine Photo Gallery (CPG) User Preferred for PHP-Nuke |
|
Nuke Cops ran a survey last quarter of 2003 on which photo gallery is the preferred choice of portal masters from our membership.
With nearly 50% of the votes, Coppermine is the preferred photo gallery.
See full results here. The membership has spoken.
However, the runners up also are worth mentioning. Each photo gallery serves a unique portal master and their tastes. Here at Nuke Cops we elected to go with Menalto Gallery. However we'll be trying out Coppermine ourselves at our themes test site: themesNC.
Going forward with our official bundle releases, I'm planning on incorporating at the minimum Coppermine. The masses have spoken.

Coppermine is the best - maybe not the easiest album proggie to install - but the best all the same. Nothing against all the rest, but most of them remind me of online shopping catalogs. If that's what you want - a photo catalog - great! However, I like artistic flair - a gallery, not a catalog. To me, that's the whole purpose, and the photo gallery should look just as good as the pictures themselves. To that end, nothing comes close to Coppermine Photo Gallery.
Example: My Coppermine Photo Gallery Install [www.lenon.com]
If someone has a GALLERY that looks better than Coppermine, let me know and I'll try it... |

- EASY to install as 1.2.2b (install program)
- one module that can be installed in either phpnuke, postnuke or MD-Pro.
- a module that can be install 100 times seperately (name=coppermine,name=coppermine2,name=art_gallery)
I want to see too!

I would definitely still check out Gallery [gallery.menalto.com]. It is pretty whip ass since 1.4.1.
The install is definitely easier than coppermine.
The functionality of the admin tools are better.
It now supports voting on a per album basis.
Supports multimedia like movies and flash.
Has a standalone upload tool that runs in java and kicks ass.
Has a plug in to post directly from an iphoto album to the web.
Supports offline galleries.
It automatically inherits your sites theme, and still can run as stand alone.
I like coppermine because it runs in a database, and I can use SQL to tweak it.
Oh yea, it is an auto-install app if your host has fantastico installed.
although it is not a gallery, the easiest install ever is postcard direct [www.ginini.com.au]. Enter your site, your password, and it installs for you remotely. You don't even have to download the thing.

windows xp scanner and camera thingie(which can do pre upload resizing)

i can also do
photoprinting(4 services)
add an infinite amount of custom fields
slideshows
user permissions
voting & comments
i use menalto on voices but where its really put to the test is http://www.gabrielmyers.com ive got 330+ megs of digicamera pictures of my 11month old son archived so that freinds and family that don't live nearby can see him. |
