Hi all,

I'm experimenting with phpnuke for a few weeks now, and I wanna use the phpBB database together with my phpnuke database...
User-, Private Message & Forum-information has to be retrieved from the phpBB database, the rest of the information has to be retrieved from the normal phpnuke database...
Is it possible to do this? Is this where bbtonuke is for, or am I searching wrong?
Please help me with this, I really wanna use my current forum with it's users (also because the forum is shared by a few sites).
Thanks for reading, if you got any questions, please ask...
And if you got any answers, please give...

Thanks in advance,
Ilir Dibrani

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are using a stand alone vs of phpbb?

What vs of Nuke do you have? If it is 6.0 you can easily install bbtonuke and use an importer (also avail at bbtonuke) to bring in your existing information. The only thing that you really have to be aware of when using the importers is that if users have special characters in their signatures and the like the importer will stop importing, but it will tell you the last entry it stopped at, so you can take a look and remove the special characters.

The whole thing can be installed on the same db so there is no disruption, and the old info deleted once you know for sure the import is complete and all is well. You might want to tell your members that the site will be experiencing upgrades etc, make some kind of notice to access the forums through Nuke, unless you are already using Nuke to access them, in which case you just need to change the url after the import is complete.

Before you do anything make sure you do a back up of your site and db

Hi, thanks for the reply,

Yep, that's correct, but I don't want to convert the phpBB database, but I want to use the phpBB database, and not the nuke database...
As I said, the phpBB database is for a forum that several sites use, so I cannot get rid of it, I have to use it...

Is this is some way possible, is this ever done?

Thanks,

greetz from Ilir Dibrani

Sure it can be done. If you want to use that forum with a link your main menu of Nuke you can do that as well. You just have to create you own menu.

Here are some issues that you might run into using seperate prgs:

Users are going to have to sign in twice once for Nuke and once for phpbb, You will have to sign more h ten tha because the login for admin and reg user is different.
You wont be able to administrate the board through Nuke.
Finding themes that match might be a problem if you want to add a second choice for your users. If you do that Users will have to change themes in two places. Most themes now are being made to work with the port, so you would have to stick to older themes or create your own.
You may lose parts of the functionality of Nuke because certain things like Pm's are linked into the forums, you could try making the existing forum active but not visible so you don't lose functionality. If you delete the forum that comes Nuke (Other then Splatt) I believe it will cause problems.

I'm not sure that you can do it with the newer vs of Nuke. I've seen it with 6.0 but nothing after that. Maybe someone else knows if you can or not.

How do you mean this?
Is it possible to use 1 db (so users only have to register once) for phpnuke & phpbb??? If it's only the signing in, there should be something for that, but I really don't want them to register twice...

I just mean this:

1) phpbb database (for users/forum/pm)
2) phpnuke database (like normal phpnuke, but without forum/users/pm)
3) 1 time registration, so that ppl can access my nuke site and the forum...

Is this what you mean by possible, or am I talking about something else???
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it Smile.

Greetz from Ilir

The database queries, tables etc are different for Nuke and phpbb. I don't believe it's possible to do using the stand alone vs.

Ok, looks like it isn't possible...
Is it possible for me to put everything from the phpBB board into my phpNuke database, and let other sites use the phpBB on my site as a standalone forum...?

Where can i find one of these "Importers", and what is classed as a special character in a users signature?

I am also updating a current phpBB forum, and was hoping to continue using my current database.

Thanks Pile.

I managed to find two importers that may be of use. Both from the same place. The first is a collection of Perl scripts and the second is a single php script.

A zip file containing the Perl scripts and installation instructions can be found here:

http://ruleit.co.uk/nuke/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=47

The second option (which i favoured) can be downloaded here:

http://www.antelopeandflannel.com/files/phpbb2phpnuke.rar

This script was taken directly of the following site, and details of how to use it can be found there. The discussion on its use is "Detailed" and "Lengthy":

INSTRUCTIONS:
http://ruleit.co.uk/nuke/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1255

DISCUSSION:
http://www.ruleit.co.uk/nuke/forums/viewtopic.php?t=272

I hope this helps.
