Hi Nukers.

As you've probably read from the news article, we're planning on putting together a nuke clone.

The basis for this is simple. It's free. it will always be free. There will be no club, no commercial licence, and we - being the developers - will provide you with up-to-the-minute, (mostly) friendly and right-from-the-developers support.

We'd like to know what your opinions are before we move ahead and begin development.

It's going to be called FreeNuke if there's enough support.

The base for it will be Nuke 6.5 with quite a few modules & bits and pieces that aren't included by default with Nuke. Security fixes will have their existance published, but in the interest of preventing the script kiddies from exploiting sites which haven't had the patches applied yet, details of the actual fixes will be limited information for developers only.

We look forward to hearing your opinions. - Please, no flaming though, we're not going against PHP-Nuke and FB so much as providing people with an alternative. It's people's choice which they use.

Yup why not, show us the NukeCops Power with FreeNuke for the future, don't think it can be a better cms Wink so show us Exclamation this because you guys are talking about starting with 6.5 so it will be PhpNuke as a basis.

thanks for the offer, but we have plenty of servers of our own Wink

We have a dedicated server for this site, I have a server sat at my feet, chatserv and raven both have boxes they can use as servers for a testing platform.

I think this is a very interesting idea. I did a lot of research before finally settling on PHP Nuke, and it was only after I started digging much deeper that I learn about things such as the Nuke Club (or whatever it is called). I though Nuke was developed under GNU/GPL licenses - so *any* distributions should be freely available (or perhaps I misunderstand the concept of the licenses). I am still learning much about Nuke, but apparently the latest "official" patches, bug fixes, etc. are only available to me if I pony up $10/month.

It may splinter the Nuke community, but I cannot see how a new distribution would be a bad idea. Users will have to make decisions about which path to take, and undoubtedly many will go with the "official" offering. Even so, more options are better, and I would welcome a version of the code that did not require me to pay a monthly access fee for patches, revisions, betas, and the like.

Go Ahead!

I think most of us are tired of getting phpNuke from FB and have to apply the secfix from NukeCops.

IMHO you can produce a better ready-to-use/less-bug product, and it'll always be free.

I can not think of anything that I can do to support you now, but anyway, FreeNuke or whatever it will be called, I'm 100% with you guys.

I'd be interested in this and as long as I knew it was going to stay free I'd be happy to post any modules I develop as well.

Well, I'm not a developer... just a user. Still, I've gotten 1,000 times more help here than at any other nuke site. Still, I have some concerns.

Disclaimer: I've only been messing with Nuke since Jan or so, so bear with me..

1st... Postnuke. It seems a splinter of PHP-Nuke, and has some support, but not nearly as much as PHP-Nuke does. One of Nuke's advantages is in the fact that new modules are developed daily, and it seems (mostly) backwards compatible with itself. I've heard the postnuke re-writes aren't nearly as modular. (the install is awesome, though... something Php-Nuke should attempt to implement)

2nd... Are we talking a whole new build, from the ground up type thing? Or will it be Php-Nuke module compatible? You mentioned 6.5 as a foundation.

3rd - unreadability. Will I have to totally discard all my mods/blocks, etc, from my site? If so, as a user, I doubt I'll convert (unless it offers significant advantages, of course). It seems to me most users who implement CMS's are either new to all this (like me) or looking to learn some php or HTML skills (most present company excluded, of course). Will it be upgradeable from present versions of nuke?

Personally, I think it's actually an excellent idea. Different Distros have seemed to put linux on the map, and I think the same can be said for some of these quality CMS's. If you're looking for a feature list of what users may want in an "out-of-the-box" experience, you should run some polls or implement a forum topic. I'd be more than happy to jump in with a Christmas list of wishes that've taken me months to add on to my site. I wish I could help all of you... But I'm one of your noobs running around in forums looking for help all the time (Thanks AI and Raven!!!). Still, if there's anything that us non-programmers could do, like beta test or whatnot, sign me up Smile. Good Luck!

I use PHP-Nuke on several of our clans sites including two of my own, I tried myphpnuke first off because it was easiest to install, but overall php nuke had more mods, blocks & in general was very easy to run.

I install it for clans free & ask them to leave the copyrights in place, which has never been a problem thus far. The peeps I deal with feel the same way, a persons or groups hard work should be reconised.

Ill certainly give any new nuke portal a test run, as long as its free, I can understand the club in one sence of giving back to the developers, but to charge for a security fix, WOOT!, even microsoft doesnt do that! Shocked

I said it in the phpnuke forums & Ill say it again, members who payed the club fee should be entitled to a free upgrade even if they no longer subscribe!

You certainly have enough moders to do the job & if I can help in any way I would love to contribute.

Just let me know.
I have extra space on my server & its a BIG one & i dont mind giving it ither. Our servers are located in Texas & have OC-48 connection.
All the exe included in setup & are Linux based.

Not down, deactivated, removed, maybe even deleted, same goes for the community websites. Expect a release minus the forums soon.
