Possible Paypal scam!! BEWARE |
|
intel352 writes "I received this email today, saying that I needed to re-verify that my email address was working, and edit my profile.. That was b.s., I knew my acct is fine, but I clicked on the link to see what the hell it was. Turns out someone has ripped off the Paypal website, and there was a legit-looking Profile form to fill out, with ALL of your info (you had to enter the info, that's the scam). If you get this email, do NOT fall for it!! Read More to see the email. Any mention of my email has been changed to prevent spam, lmao.
Here is the email that I received, with full source shown:

Re: Possible Paypal scam!! BEWARE (Score: 1) by MikeMiles on Monday, July 07 @ 18:09:12 CEST (User Info | Send a Message) | Whenever you get one of these emails, just forward the entire thing with the complete headers off to whatever company they are posing as. They in turn will go after the scammers once they collect enough evidence. If you got one, chances are thousands if not tens or hundreds of thousands of other people received them too. Some actually fill it out and get ripped off, most throw these away, and very few help the company build a case to go after the slimeballs to stop them.

The people who create these fake sites may send, you email asking you to sign in to your PayPal account and provide information, like your password, so they can use your PayPal account fraudulently. Protect your account by paying close attention to the email you receive and the sites you visit.
Use the three steps below to keep your information safe:
1. Emails - make sure they are sent from PayPal
Look for both your first and last name on every PayPal email
Be especially cautious of emails that direct you to a website that asks for sensitive information such as your password, credit card, or bank account information
2. Website pages - make sure they are hosted by PayPal
Only enter your PayPal password on pages that begin with https://www.paypal.com/ - where the backslash immediately follows the .com. Even if the URL contains the word 'PayPal' it may not be a PayPal site. Examples of non-PayPal URL's include: www.paypalsecure.com, www.paypa1.com, and www.paypalnet.com
