Explanation of modules

I need a good, clear explanation of the purposes and differences between the following modules:

Content
News
Messages

Where should a new article be added? And how are they added to the home page?

Thanks in advance... I'm a newbie.

Content: Categorized "content" so one can display several pages of information, all separated by a category placement. This module has its own pages and is NOT displayed on the home page.

News: in 99% of Nuke sites, this is the "home" module, or in other words, the default module displayed in the center of the home page. Like its title, it is basically for News.

Messages: These are displayed in the top center of the home page, and ONLY the home page. Messages are for short text or "messages" to site visitors, and is about timely or time-sensitive information. Can be used to announce site changes or to market a certain area.

Is there any documentation on good practice usage of all these modules and functions?
