As with any other upgrade, you will want to make sure that the modules and themes that you use are compatible with the new version. Create a backup prior to upgrading. You could also check into what all of the changes are in order to determine that an upgrade is needed - not something that is being done "just because".

JoAnne, I haven't tried it yet, but if it's anything like the past few versions, I'll pass on the "upgrade".
I've seen claims of improved stability, but I think the real issue is improved security (or lack thereof). In the past, each new version brought a new set of security issues while none of the existing issues were adequately addressed by the developer (wow, that sounds like Microsoft). I say, fix the old problems before creating new ones. I say, don't make your clients rely on 3rd party addons to improve your application's security.
Know what I mean?
If you're planning on trying version 8.0, be ready to patch the hell out of it.

Sounds good... I've done that a few times myself with nuke and mod development. Let me know if you do install it. I would like to have a look at it myself...

For a test, I tried it (fresh install too) and at first glance it appeared better looking. I like the idea of a better advertising module and of course... great forums and security, this is really all I want improved.
However, the forums don't seem to work (even using the default DeepBlue theme) so... My guess is this version sadly won't suprise us either.

That's too bad ....... I was so hoping that 8.0 would surprise us all and put all previous versions to shame
