1. what exactly is PHP Nuke? I couldn't find a simple description in the FAQs.

2. I am interested in learning more about how to program in PHP. Is this a site where I can learn about that?

3. I have my own website that is PHP driven and is partially done (until the programmer took off for parts unknown) I'm hoping I can learn enough to at least trouble shoot what is working - am I in the right place?

Thank you!

See: http://www.nukecops.com/PHP-Nuke_whatis-phpnuke.html

This site really isn't for pure PHP. Mostly it is for help on phpNuke.
There are tons of places for PHP. I really suggest you find a good tutorial for PHP, there's plenty of them

Actually, I have a PHP driven business site on a MySQL server. It includes a customer interface/inventory/status check/ as well as a PHPBB for employees and soon we'll be totally paperless on the payroll/billing side of things. Could this software help me?

Are there any links to existing sites that are examples of what phpNuke can do?

Thanks

phpNuke default does not have commerce modules. But there's lots of addons. I suspect what you want is OSCNuke, an integration of OSC with Nuke.
