Hello,

With respect I have had nothing but problems since installing Protector and want to remove it in its entirety.

Now registered users cannot even log in to my site. Enough is enough.

Would someone be kind enough to explain the "how to's" for removing this program?

I would greatly appreciate it and I thank you in advance.

You'd need to intuitively reverse the installation proccess.

Deactivate Protector in your administrative modules section.

Restore the files you edited manually back to their original state. Preferably from backup so there is no chance of typo's.

I believe you were to edit several files.

header.php
admin.php
authors.php

Once those two tasks are completed right, your site should start working that same as before.

To complete the uninstall you should remove and delete the files and directories you created in the installation.

Finally, using phpMyAdmin you should drop ONLY the protector tables that were added during the installation.

If you have any doubts whatsoever make a back up of your nuke database prior to this task.

Hope this helps,
Darrell

I appreciate your response but one small problem, I have not found a way to disable protector anywhere in the admin section.

Is this by design?

There is a way.

Log into your administration page. Click on the Modules icon. Scroll down to the Protector entry and deactivate it.

That gets it out of your list of modules. Then continue with the uninstall like I suggested.

I tried that but... Protector was not listed in the module list. (honest and truly)

However, I followed your guidance on the removal and all appears to be working again.

Many many thanks!

Uh oh,, found an issue.

When clicking on the "create an account" link I am getting an error reading "you are trying to access a restricted area."

Any ideas?

Well,

If you put your site back to the way it was before than it would be an issue that existed prior to the installation of the Protector system.

There are several different reasons this might occure.

The first that comes to mind is a cookie issue. Delete your cookies, close all browsers, restart your browsers and try again. If that dosent fix it you'll have to start searching the forums here.

Good luck,
Darrell

One other easy thing just occured to me.

Make sure that annoymous users have access to the sign up module. I saw one time a person had it set to registered users only.

Then new guests could not access it to register.

Ok, I am thinking about reinstalling protector as I like the idea of having my site secured (as best I can) but I have some concerns I would like to ask about.

First, I am running phpnuke 7.3 and would like to know the recommended version of protector I should use. I ask because the previous version (which I cannot remember right now) was not blocking IP's trying to access restricted areas. This was verified through normal server logs.

Second, I am highly concerned about protector locking out parts of the site when installed, a good example being the blank page after creating an admin issue posted in this forum.

Lastly, after installing protector someone was still able to hack into my site using a security hole in the photo album (4NAlbum). Protector did not identify and stop the attack.

Not trying to be an a** or anything folks. These are serious concerns that affect everyone relying on protector to do just that.

Protect their sites.

I appreciate your efforts truly, I just want something that is going to protect my site.

The attackers information was turned over to the FBI as the hacker is known to have terrorist connections and has made threats against the general public in various countries. Several international forum posts by this person were found and also forwarded (This terrorist connection was confirmed by the FBI)

So, you see my concerns.

Terrorist scum are trying to access ordinary sites and use them to their advantage. Mine was one such statistic.

Incidently and nothing against the author of 4nalbum but, if you are using this module I would strongly suggest you look inside where your albums are located for a folder that you did not put there.... Might be nothing, but...

That package left on my site infected everyone who visited and made a real mess of things. The folder left for me oddly enough was called "sh*t" if you get my meaning.
