Can we get a CVS forum going? I'm a new nuker and recently discovered the CVS repository. There are many questions. A brand new site could do a CVS install rather easily. How about an existing site converting over to CVS. The update possibility and ease of maintenance is a great feature and a great resource provided by nukecops, but I think more information would make it more useable to the php-challenged n00bs (and I can toss my name in there as topping that list)
possible sticky topics right off the bat...
FAQ for CVS
What version of nuke is currently in the CVS?
Who can use CVS (you need shell access on your site)
Why would you use CVS?
pros and cons
What happens when you do an update?
what happens to files you've edited on your site/added on your site that aren't part of the CVS? what happens if you edit a file on your site and it IS part of the CVS and then you do a cvs update?
About the shell script - automating updates
How to set this up
*note* Xeulas already did a great post on this in the bnc:general forum. I would propose copying (or linking) that post here and maybe looking it over to make it n00b-friendly. (examples are always helpful and can stave off questions)
How to maintain your site with CVS
How to log in
How to update
How to ignore certain files so they DON'T get overwritten/updated (cause maybe you customized tehm on your site)
I feel that a forum dedicated to this resource would be very helpful. NukeCops staff does a tremendous amount of work to maintain the CVS. Let's use it!
