I am trying to log out as admin so that I can register as a normal user, I click the log out link and it says I am logged out. So I return to the site only to find that I am automatically logged in again and don't have the option to register as a new user.
Yes, I am a newbie...and I'm sure it is probably something simple that I haven't done....please help!

I've had that happen before. Kinda weird, huh? Delete the cookies in your browser. That should take care of it...

Hrm... you got me there. I don't know how you can even be getting into the admin area unless you are going to 'www.yourdomain/admin.php'.
The way I have mine setup is, I have an admin account and a user account. I use the same user name and password for both of them. I can login as either a user or an admin depending on WHERE I enter the site. A regular login, from say index.php, gets me into the site as a user, but in order to login as an admin I have to go to admin.php.
Is this making any sense?
The cookie problem usually crops up when you are logged in as a user or an admin or both, and you upgrade Nuke to a new version, or you install a tweak, like NSN YAT or whatever. The new setup won't allow your old cookies to expire, so you will stay perpetually logged in no matter what you do until you get rid of the offending cookie[s] on your local machine[s].
Maybe someone else can chime in here. This is probably just confusing you worse...

Thanks for helping. I'm not sure why but when I was logged in as admin I could access both the admin area and the site itself....I thought that was just ormal. Anyway I was encountering too many problems and as I had uploaded phpnuke to a free hosting space I wasn't getting much assistance from the host....so I figured I would use a proper (paid for) server. I've now uploaded nuke there and am encountering a different problem altogether...the missing security image!
