I have a new collection of hacks and was trying to add one which turned out to be worthless so i took it out.

No, its not that it was worthless, the functions.php file had non-escaped quotes in it. AKA: " without the leading escape: \".

Ah yes, that part was me trying to change the function a bit to see if it could at least behave better but upon trying several options none were any good, the function is still there but won't get called now, i do have to take it out since it's broken anyway.
