My apology if this has already been addressed. I did a couple of searches on the forum and did not find a similar question asked.
Last night I began to FTP the [lists] folder into the [public_html] folder that is placed in root.
All of the files transferred without a hitch except:
for all files that began with a [dot]
such as:
.htaccess
I believe that there were a total of 8 files that start with a dot. My server explained that files names must NOT start with a dot or a dash.
Anyone know a solution to this problem?
And is there a problem to run my phpnuke website without .htaccess?
Thanks Much

You could always try re-naming the .htaccess file to something like htaccess.txt , then once uploaded, try and rename it back to .htaccess , however, I doubt this will work . Just depends on how the server is setup . I don't believe there is a work around for this if re-naming your file doesn't work . As for your site , it will still work without it .

i rename it its just htaccess no dots nothing when i put the dot its says filename not allowed.
If the site works without the .htaccess i`ll just leave it alone but if gives me problems i may think about changing the host...
I thank you for your help...
Cheers.

funny thing is I just did this yesterday and it worked for me!
I renamed the .htaccess to htaccess.txt - transfered all the files over and manually renamed them on the derver and BAM - works perfectly!!
