With the implementation of mod_rewrite technique almost a year ago, I was starting to face bandwidth problems, since my plan included only 5 Gigs pm. The first thing I did, was to ban all bots from the robots text, except for googlebot. So far no one is breaking the ban. But as far as google digged deeper and deeper, I started experiencing severe shortage of bandwidth resources. Now, with more than 50000 pages listed by Google, I am allowing the googlebot to crawl the site only for the first days of the month. And four of my five gigs are gone.
As most of the nukers, I don't have a site-generated budget to allow for more bandwidth, and I can not also googlify the Amazon module, because any host will ban my site in few days after discovering that 15% of their server's load are taken by the devourous googlebot hits.
So, for the last month or so I've been doing deep research on dedicated servers both virtual (personal) and full-fledged, collecting all data in a closed personal forum. But the "datasheet" got very interesting and made me see some trends that I'd like to share with you in order to spare your time and money as my fellow-nukers.
Here is my list of best offers on the Net for a low-budget site. The list is expanding as new companies pop up with quite a decent personal dedicated support and perfect technical offerings. I have also questioned the owners of the virtual dedicated servers if they allow of mod_rewrite and put the info on the list only when becoming positive answer.
As this is still a private list for friends, feel free to take advantage of it and add your special choice or informed advice. The offerings should not be higher than $60 per month paid annually.

Yes, please do. I went to the site, and the specs are amazing. The question if if they would overlead their servers, so please let us know after you have had some experience with them.

im very familiar with canaca.com as they are friends of mines ..they are very reliable and very cost efficient and right now i have a dedicated server from them.. i have no problems running nuke..for a little extra from them you can get power tools installed on your server and nuke is up and running in a click of a button less than two minutes to install.. |

Actually I think it's like 15 seconds, I have nuke in my Power Tools Menu in the Ensim Panel (Silver Plan Virtual Host) and it installs in about 15 - 30 seconds. Only reason I don't use that is because PHPNuke 7.1 came out, and the Ensim Panel still has 6.9, so I installed my own, but did a test run to see how the one they provide works, and its nice. |
