im running the same set up as you.
Your probably not putting it in the right folder. go to your absolute root and access the etc folder there.
lable the file simply host.deny as you see it here.
no extensions and drop it in and your up working.

Would anyone be interested in a web based dbase to grab this ip info?
Possibly NukeCops staff, myself and a few others can supply the bad ips.
I own 7 servers with over 300 websites/clients etc and log about 10-15 hackers a day from each server. I would be willing to quick build a dbase and setup an ouput file so as to append the list each day or so and make the file available, possibly even have it emailed once a day to anyone who wants it.
let me know oh and how do i do this on my windows box?

We still think that such banning are not good idea, but...
we recently subscribed to service who offers proxy list, simple proxy (about 3000 per day), anonymous proxy (about 500 per day), socks, fully anonymous proxy and etc (overall amount around 100 per day).
It does cost us only 100$ per month.
Buying not so fresh proxies did cost to us less, around 2$ per thousand of proxy.
More over, we could buy around 200.000 proxy just for 100$.
Of course, then freshen proxy, then more of them working.
Most real hackers using proxy, anonymous proxy and etc in their hacking attempt. We put higher prices, they are as low as 2$ for 1000 of new IP-s to try to hack your sites.
Why we are telling all this? Not sure. It's just topic about security. And we placed here it just FYI. If it's easy to buy 1000 of new IP for 2$, then that sense to go and posting another 10 new IPs? We hope it should be another way.
Idea about united DB of suspectios IPs seems for us good. But inserting couple of IPs from forum each day doesn't looks fun for us.
Oh, by the way, most of proxies are US proxies, the second place are Brazil, India, China and hell knows that.
P.S.: Please, note, that we don't offer nothing for sale this. Don't bother us in PM or somethere with ask to sell proxy for you. It's easy to find same things on yahoo or altavista. Don't ask us personally about this.

This program is in its infancy so it will take time to mature. But yes banning proxies from EVERYWHERE works. Over the course of 100+ websites that I control, hacking attempts, spam and just generalized crap, have virtually been eliminated and now, non-existent.
About your figures, yes, they use proxy and anonymous proxy and other forms of compromised PCs. But they are blocked as well. WHY? Because were closing ALL the doors these shitheads have opened and use.
On your stats, well the NUMBER ONE TARGET of THE HACKING CAPITAL TO ATTACK, is US PCs. so thats why you THINK its the US, but its not, they have the highest number of compromised PCs mainly from the morons who dont have firewalls or persue gay porn sites all day that your fellow Russians, dropped Datanatory Hijacks containing vicious registry altering code and launched trojans against them. Well, Their all shut down becasue BRAZIL AS A WHOLE, is banned forever. Dont need em, dont want em. China? their banned about 90% Korea? 100% Japan? 90% Middle Sandpile, growing to 100% soon. And none of it will EVER be reversed. So now their OTHER doors are closed TOO.
If the legit user was suddenly blocked everywhere, well, they might actually get help to realize their damn infected PC is full of crap, clean it and get back on the net with another IP. And itll keep happening that they get blocked again when they get RE-infected for being retarded. So at the very least, well make some morons educated a little more and less likely to visit your comrades poorly designed viral code sites. Period! Even if we arent the ones to tell them their infected, their ISP will when they call them to find out WHY they cant visit half the internet.
Face it, this program works, my mind and time are clear for PRODUCTIVE work and the sites are running SUPER efficiently.
As this program progesses, such as the idea of an online DB or other methods, will be available in the VERY near future.
Its your choice to not use it, but Im sorry to say, it works PERFECTLY and for FREE! Even if I was some poor sap, which im far from, I would still give this out for free. Because these scumbags are just wrecking the internet for their gay pleasure.
When the net is destroyed one day, what are they gonna do? Its about the only way theyll actually get a real job and move out of moms one room cesspool apartment.
Until then, were slowing the decomposing process to a crawl by denying them ALL access ANYWHERE except their little fag worlds.

1) You can ban a lot of IP, but it's wasting of time, because any hacker can buy another 1000 IPs just for 1$. And it will be NEW IP, which is not listed anythere still.
2) Free IPs which offered, it's just a trick and scam. They are destined to be banned by kids who thing that ban protection of IPs could save them from real hackers.
3) We don't offer any sales of IPs.
