Hello all...

First wanted to say thanks to more people than I can mention, I have found the answers to all of my questions here, there are some really helpfull people here!

Next, I am having a problem.... I have a PHP-Nuke site that I run my personal website, and when I say personal I mean friends and family are welcome. The problem is I want to screen new users, by this I mean, I want prospective new users that want access to user only viewable sections to submit a request for an account, not automagically get access. The reason for this is I have hacker who thinks its funny to exploit the content of my site, he cannot change anything, but I have galleries that I set up for users only etc. Another thought is if there was a way to administratively assign users to a privillegded group and that would be good too!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am running 6.5, and will be upgrading to 6.7 within the next few days. I am near desperation. I think the automagic account creation is a great idea for sites that are designed to have all of the content open to the public, but it isn't working for me at this time.

Thanks in advance,
Corey

No problem... I don't allow anybody and everybody on my site either. You spend more time playing nursemaid than webmaster. Actually, I don't care if they look around, but I don't want them posting and so forth; putting smut in my Coppermine Photo Gallery, et cetera.

Even though we have a little different criteria, what you need is NSN Your Account 650, aka YAT 3.0.2e. That will give YOU control over who uses your site. For instance, when someone registers on my site, I have to approve them. YAT sends me a message saying a user is waiting to be approved. I go to the site and check out their application. If their 'handle' is 'badboyzsuck69@hotmail.com' I ban them right then and there, before they even get registered.

One nice feature is you can set it so ppl cannot change their email addy. You know, for the script kiddies that register then immediately change their email address so you can't find them. Then they start hacking your site through proxy servers... Evil or Very Mad

Don't like ppl from Brazil? Bye bye! Don't like ppl that type in all lower-case letters? Boom! You're banned. Wanna give me sh!t? You're suspended for a month! This tweak is great!

Does this work well on the 6.7 version too? Is there any plans for several security levels so you can screen what areas people can go to based on their level?
