ok now that the first part of the problems has been solved here is the second part

another thing that i found on how i was having the carriage returns problems when i would do the search query... there is a row called totalcomments located in the nuke_downloads_downloads table.

the totalcomments all have a value of either 0 or 1 and what i found out is that all the ones with the value of 1 are the ones that create the carriage return problem when doing a search. i dont know what determines the value of totalcomments but it seems that they are all the ones that have a Comments attached to the download item. no i dont have 6.5 installed anymore so i cant verify it.. on the otherhand i tried adding the value 1 to the totalcomments
on the fresh install of phpnuke 6.8 on the lycos.server and used the standard search and it produced the exact same error..

go check it out.. goto downloads and do a search for test

http://members.lycos.co.uk/subfighter/modules.php?name=Downloads

and then i added some comments to the some of the Download Enteries in the PHPNUKE 6.8 fresh install above and it does not change the value in totalcomments so my conclusion is the since i imported my data from phpnuke 6.5 that it assigned that value of 1 to totalcomments
for every download that had comment attached to it... but in 6.8 this causes a problem and by setting to 0 seems to fix the problem..

can anyone help me out here and explain the purpose of the value 1 or 0... And if i could just set all the values to 0????
