Phpbb forums in its own database

Greets,

Title pretty much says it. I would like to my phpbb forum module to have its own SQL DB to speed my site up a bit. I don't seem to find DB settings in the phpbb config files, so is there a way to do it? Any help would be appreciated.

No, phpNuke only establishes one database connection. Given the extent of integration, I would suggest perhaps running a seperate phpBB comepletly

Hmm? I run a couple PHPnuke sites, and on one of them I have a module set up on a completely seperate DB, and it seems to work fine. I do not see why I cannot do the same for the forums Sad

Because phpBB could would be need to be rewritten to do that. Since they share users table, it would be pretty well complicated to share among two databases.
Other modules may have started as their own individual applications and ported to work in phpNuke without actually integrating user and other functionality.

Ah I see. Well thats no good. Ive had complaints of my website running slow and I figured that was the fix. Back to the drawing board Razz

Slow just means that your database server cannot handle the load of requests from phpNuke. phpNuke is pretty database intensive, you may want to look into a new host. (Esp if you are on a shared server, companies like iPowerWeb even set up query limits so it stops scripts from running a lot of database intensive queries)

I use 1and1.com. I dont remember having speed issues before, ill just harass them in email I suppose.

I've heard reports about their shared servers (I use their dedicated servers myself). Let us know if they "fix" anything
