Limiting size of offsite avatars?

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there are any hacks available to limit the dimensions and/or file sizes of offsite avatars. I've got some members that post HUGE pictures for their avatars, which ends up breaking my templates. I'd rather not turn that off if I don't have to.

I was thinking of something along the lines of using GD to check the physical dimensions and file size when they submit the offsite avatar url, but I'm still not familiar enough with PHP to do it myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
