I know you've probably heard this before, but is there a way to integrate PHP-Nuke with vBulletin? I know that you cannot distritube vBulletin with free software. However, my idea is a rewritten Nuke built somewhat around vBulletin...with the PHP-Nuke version being distributed freely, under GNL or whatever. (and perhaps some code genuis could satisfy all BBS's with a "modular" Nuke that uses a plugin to interface with various BBs, like phpBB, IPB and vB...)

Well the thing is, you'd have to modify vBulletin to have it working under PHP-Nuke. But you wouldn't be able to distribute it freely, unless vBulletin themselves offers the modded files for those who purchased vB, but who want it in PHP-Nuke.

There's already CMS projects for vBulletin. Check out their community.

As for porting, I've seen instructions to get vBulletin to work in phpNuke. Just search and you'll find it.

there's also an invision power board port (which is better than vbulletin IMO), which also cannot be distributed, but it's finished. go here to see it:

and click the full installation guide link.

Neutral That site removed the PHP Nuke copyright code.

More refined idea:
PHP-Nuke would ideally have an install script that reads the config file, in which there is a new variable: "forums". Choices would be "phpbb", "ibf", "vb". (phpBB, Invision Board and vBulletin in that order). This would allow custom scripts that would read information off the top of the existing BB database. As in get information from BB and then "convert" it by changing the variables. So if vB used "user_aim" and Nuke uses "aim" for AIM info, then take the information and rename the variable in a script in the forums directory. So we have three new PHP files, "phpbb.php", "ibf.php" and "vb.php".

Again, the problem is that only phpBB allows such usage and distribution of code. You could have a system to figure out the databases, but the actual code the Forums needs to use it cannot be distributed.

Have you seen IPBNuke.net? They have a modified Nuke that runs IPB. All you need is a modified Nuke. No offense, but everyone who says vBulletin and IPB cannot be distributed is missing the point. I never suggessted distributing forum software, just a modified PHP-Nuke. I'm sure IPBNuke would help you on the IPB end and there probably is some coding guru with access to a vBulletin 3...
