I have installed the Japanese Language Pack in phpBB under Nuke 6.5.

The Japanese characters are not showing up correctly.

No, it's not the server, or fonts, or unicode, or Nuke. If I select the Chinese language in the Language pulldown in Nuke, Chinese characters display properly in Nuke. But, when I go to the Forums, select my profile, and change my personal language to Japanese, the characters in the forum change, but they are not Japanese. I have examined the files in the language pack, and there are Japanese characters in there, which display fine.

But it does not seem to work within Nuke. The labels are garbage.

One other datum -- if I cut and paste Japanese into a post or reply, it displays fine.

So, why would the labels from the language pack not display correctly?

Any ideas?

For the record, in case anyone else encounters this problem:

At the suggestion of the Japanese Language Pack author, and some research on working Japanese sites, I found that the following change works:

In includes/meta.php, change the first meta tag to:

Code:
echo "<META HTTP-EQUIV=\"Content-Type\" CONTENT=\"text/html; charset=Shift_JIS\">\n";

Yes, I know this is not a general solution, but since I have not been able to find a Japanese language pack for Nuke, this works for me for now.
