whenever i try to create a category using my_egallery, i put in the name of the folder that any uploaded images should be stored in (i tried absolute path, as well as a relative folder path..), yet eGallery keeps reporting that it's unable to create the folder, and i should check write permissions...
well, i have the folder for submissions set to /absolutepathblahblah/html/files/sub_images
phpnuke 6.5 is what i'm trying out (i currently have 6 for my site), so i have 6.5 in /absolutepathblahblah/html/nukebeta
would the fact that the images folder is *above* the nuke folder, cause a problem with egallery?
i was assuming that when i put in the folder name to be created for a specific category, that the folder would be created under /sub_images, so i set sub_images to 777 permission..
any idea what the issue is?

I have been having this same problem. I have done about 5 fresh installs. The only way I can get it to work is by manually creating the categories in the database itself ;-/.

well, i finally realized that i too had to manually add the sql tables, but i'm still unable to add categories due to the write permission... i think i have an idea of what the problem is tho, i'll post if i figure it out

OMG
okay, i finally realized the directory you put into the config menu is only for submitted images.. i was thinking that was the default img dir
anyways, so then i chmod'ed the /modules/My_eGallery/gallery to 777, goto create a Category, put in the name of what i want the folder to be called, and click submit
it STILL says it was unable to create the directory... the catch is, it created the directory just fine... anyways, it's working now, but if some1 could tell me why the hell it's giving the wrong message, lol, i would appreciate it (btw, if i go back, and submit again, it then tells me the dir already exists, lmao)

okay, i dunno wtf the deal is, and sry about posting so much, but check this out:
Quote:
Warning: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 567 is not allowed to access modules/My_eGallery/gallery/counterstrike owned by uid 48 in /home/virtual/site45/fst/var/www/html/nukebeta/admin/modules/gallery/index.php on line 133
Warning: readdir(): supplied argument is not a valid Directory resource in /home/virtual/site45/fst/var/www/html/nukebeta/admin/modules/gallery/index.php on line 135
yeah, i do have safe mode on (not by choice), but what the heck is the deal with that? OTHER scripts are able to read from specified directories with no problem.. also, the Art directory shows up with no problem, and the new directories are properly chmodded at 777 (by the script..)

safe mode is a pain in the Rainbow Brite sometimes. It can do some weird things with error messages. Just contact ur web host and ask them nicely to disable it.

thx for replying AI
does anyone have any idea tho what the gallery script does with the user-created categories, that is different from how it handles the default Art category?
it just seems ridiculous that i have Upload scripts on my site, file recurse scripts, scripts to move files, rename files, etc etc, and a *GALLERY* can't work around freakin safe mode...
btw, i believe i contacted my host about safe mode awhile back, and i think they didn't want to turn it off..

Scripts cannot create folders while php is running in safe mode.

but it *did* create folders... if i refreshed an ftp view of the gallery folder, the sub folders WERE created... so i dunno what the deal is that it can create folders yet can't work with them...
also, keep in mind, the SAFE MODE error that i got was just when i went to the categories admin screen to *view* the categories, it wasn't when i created the folders...

Remove the folder that got created, make it yourself via ftp, chmod it to 777 then go to the gallery`s admin section and attempt to create the category again.

okay, i just tried to create a Sub-Category in the Art category, told it to create the folder 'test'

showed up at the top of my theme, and it told me it could not create the category, yet i look in the Art category (ftp), and the 'test' folder is there... weird...

It helps when ones host provider is willing to listen.
