Personally i like Gallery v1.3.3 from http://gallery.sourceforge.net/
i found it simple to install although i had to place some netpbm stuff on my server (whatever that it).
i don't think it requires GD, i think you have to pick either imagemagik or netpbm.
i found it less complicated than Coppermine.
Since i too was installing for others, Gallery v1.3.3 was easier to explain how it works, it's pretty self-explanatory too.
i don't know about author support but this site would probably answer any questions.
it has a cool slideshow feature too.
you can see it in action at http://www.ladonne.com/modules.php?name=Gallery
i still have the sample photos uploaded to demonstrate to the site owner. |

I don't know why I forgot to mention the postcard function because I use it a lot.
Cheers,

I would recomend you 4images 1.7, you can download it here www.4homepages.de
Its a very nice picturegallery program, which work as standalone!
But you can import it in PHP-Nuke as a Module...
Its very easy to install and use,,, they have support here www.4homepages.de and it Use GD Library or ImageMagik
Why it's great ??? coz. there is much much themes, add-ons, mods for it..
And you can do auto image resize, autothumb.... etc...... |

Gallery is the best I have used by far. Seems the most customizable with options to have different colored backgrounds, fonts and the like for each album/subalbum if you so choose. Or you can just have it use the css from your nuke theme for seamless integration.
-Integrates with Nuke userlist with the ability to set permissions on each album as needed.
-I love the slideshow function. Great for large family type albums and allows you to cycle through all the pictures in an album at an interval you set.
-Has a random image block so you can display pics on the main nuke page if you so choose.
-Autocreates thumbnails and allows for resizing and all that using either netpbm or Imagemagick
-Very easy install. Nice little 4 step install wizard
- Upload files
- Chmod config file to writable
- Run Install Wizard
- Chmod config file back to read only
- End of install Gallery is running
-Easy to upload. Can upload from the site up to 5 pics at a time by default, or your users can download a small app to allow mass uploads of pictures.
- Author and community support is huge. They have a message board that is almost as active as these here. I never had troubles getting an answer when i needed one.
Well that's my two cents. Good luck making your choice Raven! |

I use Gallery. Always have, always will.
This site: www.nukedgallery.net looks like it will become active in a short while, and should be pretty useful. |

Latest Gallery 1.3.4 RC3. It's a breeze to install and configure. Can use either NetBDM or Image Magic, choice is yours iether works great. Slide show, thumbs, sized pictures, full size pictures, print option either free or with small donation, set by Admin during configuration ( why not help thouse guys out ). The only glitch I found with this program is that you have to set files html/modules/gallery/albums/albumdb.dat.lock and serial.dat to 664 mode. The user under which priveledges webserver is running has to be able to write to this files otherwise you get ugly errors from time to time regarding not been able to open this files coming from ../platform/fs_unix.php file. |

ah, but remember, gallery was originally developed as a standalone app, not as one to be integrated into any CMS (they've been gracious enough to make it easier, though). anyway, 1.3.4 is officially out, I'm using 1.3.5-cvs-b22 (i always use the latest CVS version, never had any problems). it's also got this kick-a$$ extra: Gallery Remote, basically a Windows/*nix GUI to allow creation/uploading of albums. All the info at http://gallery.menalto.com |

Personally, I find MyEGallery to be the easiest to hack and twist the way I want it to. |

I am currently using Gallery 1.3.4, but I'm not quite satisfied with it... had an incident a few days ago where someone wrote in some innapropriate comments. The problem is that there's no control over comments... your options are to turn then on, or turn them off, end of story. No "registered users only" posting, which clearly is not going to work out for me in the long run... |

it would be a quick mod to the code for it to either email the comments to you for approval, and then allow only the admin to post them, or to only allow registered users post them (simple ifuser check before they try to post).
i think this may be a feature (only registered users can post them) in Gallery 2. |
