I think I already know the answer to this question, but to make sure....

If I have a home network with 3 computers, and do this on each, how much will it affect my experience on the net? I tend to do some gaming here n there, and do not want to experience lag or even mess up the processes going in the background. None of my computers are "all that", with the fastest being an AMX XP 1700+.

Anyway, I just wanted to take part, but didn't want to kill my network or drastically affect my gaming or other net usage.

I have it running on a couple of machines at one time. Granted I'm not gaming, but haven't noticed it make a difference. You can always temporarily disable it, or shut it off on one of the machines. It's pretty flexible.

I have a quick question before joining the team.. I have two pc's at home, where one of them are on 24/7.. both are P4 3GHz w/HT.. Will I suffer any major lag on my computers? I'm not a dedicated gamer, but I have a go at CS from time to time.

Sounds like an insteresting program you have going there Wink

No, no major lag at all. But if you are going to play, just suspend its processing.

Hey, I'm new here to, that is, I didn't register untill now.

Since I have PHP-Nuke running on my site nukecops.com is a essential site to visit for me.

During one of my visits I noticed the "folding-project" which is think is a great thing! So, when my PC is on it is folding on the background.

Nukecops & folders: Keep up the great work! Cool

I tried folding for several weeks on one box just to see the hit on my system. I didn't notice anything untoward in my compy's operations so I now have it running on three boxes and soon to be 4. I have folded a combined 15WU on all three boxes on my network at this time. Oh, and I just joined team #35564 tonight with all three boxes! Woot!

Cheers!
Ci

No worries, Zhen. Both resources (NukeCops and Folding) are definitely worth supporting. I will be asking lots of dumb n00b questions here so the least I can do is give back a little when and as I can.

Hopefully one day soon I will have learned enough to be in a position to help out some other new user who has the same questions I do now... Wink

Cheers!
Ci

Hey, anyone there?

I just joined the team, but maybe I'm late? In any case, folding is a lot more fun with my new P4 box than with the old celeron laptop (about 12 times faster), so I decided to give it a try.
Why don't you all help get the team back up and running?
In the meantime, enjoy todays stats:

Ok, just installed it this morning. Now how about some of you joining my SETI@Home team?

SETI@Home is a simple application like the folding one, but this one is from berkeley.edu, and it analyzes radio signals from space in hopes of locating intelligent life in outer space. And here's the kicker, if you submitt the WU that find's E.T. You get the name them!!!

Download the software from here http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/download.html

Check out my team stats here

There are even add-ons for your site, and with a little editing, it looks just like any other page in your site. Click here to see my stats and my team stats

And of course I'll change the name to Nukecops Team, when/if some of you start to join.
