Is it possible to have a forum where only moderators can read and reply, but anyone can post? You can't see topics, but you can post them. If I disable everything but View and Post permissions, it still gives me "Sorry but only moderators can read topics in this forum". Which is fine I suppose, but if it had the New Topic button I'd be happy . As it is I can manually paste in the link and it works. |

If the moderators can "only read and reply" how can anyone post to something they can't read? <puzzle look> Why would you want a forum where the poster can't even read their own post? Why would the moderator reply to something that the poster can't even read? |

For a non-admin to submit something to an admin only forum. Complaints about other people that are part of the same organization, things like that. The functionalisty is there, it works, there's just no link there for when someone has post access but not read. |

did you make your account an admin account in the forums CP? You do that in user admin>permissions and user admin>managment. Make sure you use the user level drop box and select administrator, that is in user admin>permissions |

Uh...what?
What I want:
A forum where non-moderators can only post. Not read. Not view topics. Nothing. Just click on "New Topic", write your post, and be on your way.
What I get:
A forum where non-moderators cannot post simply because there is now "New Topic" link. If I paste it in manually as a plain old user, it works as one would expect it to. |

I am not sure if i understand either but if you go to the forum's admin section and under Forum Admin you click on permissions you will be able to change most every aspect of each forum, you'll have to click advanced Mode to access individual settings. |

Alright. I really don't know how else to explain this.
What I want is for non-moderators to come into a forum that all THEY can do is post. They can't see other users posts. Just post theirs. No reading of topics. The MODERATORS can read and reply (for other moderators to see) and do everything a user normally would be able to.
Now, I give non-mods post access. I give them access to see that the forum exists. I do not give them access to do anything else but post. I copy the link for "new topic" and change the forum number to that particular forum. If I'm logged in as a mod or admin, that link lets me post. If I log in as a user that hasn't been given permission to post, it says "Not allowed to post here" or somesuch. if I try it as one of the users that is allowed to post but not read, it LETS ME!
The only thing stopping this is that the "New Topic" button is not visible for those that have post access. It should be, whether they can read the forum index or not. I can take screenshots if this isn't explained well . |

I understand what you mean, Antra. I spent the better part of a day trying to figure out a way to do this as well. I finally asked in the phpbb forums, and it is not possible at this time.
Basically if the member can't read it, they can't post. They did move my thread to the dev forums, so maybe that's something we'll see in a future release.
[Edit: Sorry for bringing up an 'older' thread, but I hate finding ones that go unanswered, and maybe someone else is wondering as well.] |
