I have upgraded to 6.5 from 6.0 where everything was working fine.
Now when I make changes to preferences in the admin menu and click save the changes are not saved and I am redirected to the home page. config.php is chmod'd to 666.
I have not been able to find anyone else with this problem and I am hoping someone can offer some suggestions please.
Thanks. |

Thanks for your speedy reply, chatserv.
I hate to say it but that didn't work. When I first upgraded and because I couldn't get the admin security block to work, my host moved me a new server and copied all the files from the old server to the new. Would that somehow change a setting somewhere?
Everything seems to be working fine. |

if ur host moved you to another server, the specific settings might be different on it, I'd check with your host about that (the settings I'm on about are the php.ini and hte httpd.conf settings)

Thanks for your reply.
I have other 6.5 sites running on the same server without any problems although they were fresh intalls not upgrades. That is why my host moved this site onto it.
I am trying to avoid having to delete the site and install 6.5 as a new installation but with the existing database if I can help it. |

More on this problem:
Today instead of mucking around any longer, I backed up the database and deleted all the files. I then downloaded a fresh copy of 6.5 and installed it.
Now with a new unused database I don't have the admin/preferences problem but as soon as I attach the old database I get the same error: preference changes are not saved and I get immediately redirected to index.php.
This seems to mean that the problem is caused by something in the database. Any suggestions on where I can go from here would be welcome.
Thank you. |

Try dropping the nuke_config table from the installed backup database and the copy paste the create table for nuke_config into the the run sql box. |

Hello,
This problem just occurred when I changed my old theme to a new theme that was 6.5 compatible. Before changing the theme everything worked in the admin section. I think it has something to do with the theme due to the fact the problem started when I changed my theme.
I am redirected to the index.php or if I return back to the admin.php file the information wasn't saved.
I uploaded the mainfile.php that Chatserv recommended and the problem still exist. |

From time to time I have the same redirection problem with 6.5 when submitting new story from the Admin. Instead of saving the story (to post or preview it) I am being redirected to index.php
This happens usually when there are many links to other sites in the story.
And saying links, I liked very much the automatically created related links in 6.0 displayed in the right upper block when viewing the article. Now thew are gone. |

I don't know if this is the best solution or not but at least things are working again.
I deleted the nuke_config from the old (good) database and and replaced it with an unused copy of the table. Then added the site information via admin/preferences and everything saved OK and seems to be working.
So I don't know exactly what the problem was and I wish I had done the above before I deleted and rebuilt the site from scratch yesterday (except for the database). Anyway it's all experience.
One thing, I couldn't seem to edit the original nuke_config table before I dropped it. I know almost nil about mysql but is there something, a safety measure or lock, that stops editing of certain tables?
A very sincere thanks to everyone for your help. |

I just duplicated the problem. It's caused by changing the footers in admin/preferences. In V6 I had several extra things in the footers such as a visitor counter, host logo etc. It appears 6.5 does not like these additions.
Also if you do/or have changed these footers and are getting redirected to index.php you are only need to remove your changes to the footers and admin/prefs will again save normally and leave you at the admin/prefs page.
Cheers. |
