I have scoured this forum and every other forum available related to phpBB and have found no joy. I have found posts with helpful tidbits like 'yeah, it's a cookie problem' and 'works fine for me.' Well, thanks for that information, but me and about 1000 other people are asking this question all over the internet. Ever since I upgraded from 2.0.4, the read/unread thing has gone all to pieces.

If I go to the forum index directly upon logging in, I will see the forums that have new topics, but immediately upon clicking on one of the forums, the read/unread disappears altogether, so I don't even know which topics in the forum have new posts.

I've tried resetting the nuke_users.user_lastvisit field to 0 after I've logged in just to see what would happen, and all of a sudden it works, until I click on a thread or a forum or even refresh the page and it disappears again. It looks like everytime that there is a page read the nuke_users.user_session_time gets reset and it always gets reset higher than the nuke_users.user_lastvisit field. It would appear that there is a comparison going on there, but since the user_session_time field keeps getting updated, that comparison becomes null and void.

This is a real problem for my users - communication abilities through the forum have fallen off drastically over the last week and I can directly attribute it to this issue.

What I've tried:

-clearing the cookie domain
-setting the cookie domain
-increasing the session time

and that's about all the help 12 hours of research has come up with. I've seen no less that 100 people posting with the prolem, but these are the only answers and these are not answers. Please, o please, o please won't some hero step up to the plate and answer this problem for the
masses.

Thanks a million in advance....

I too would be curious as to the fix. A friend of mine is having the same problem on his site - he is using Nuke Cops 6.5 Enhanced version. I do not see anything wrong, but I am sure there is some sort of cookie problem. I would be grateful for any ideas or suggestions. Thanks!

Try this:

Configuration of the Forum, Cookie-Location set to "/" and Cookie-Domain clear.

I'm having the same problem... drives my users nutty and I'm thinking about trying to take the New Posts Since Last Visit link out of the site, cause of all the headache it causes.... will try that fix.

It worked! Thanks.

I've been a bad, bad neighbor...waiting so long to return to this thread...my apologies.

I had tried that fix and other variations on it and it didn't help. However, I should note, out of desperation for a fix, shortly after this post, I just overwrote my whole site, including the mods (backed up of course) with the bNC bundle since that is what's running here and it seemed to work. Well, I had to spend some number of hours reinstalling all my modifications (custom stuff, not publically available mods), but my 'Since Last Visit' works better than I ever remember it working. However, I don't have a clue as to why it works now and didn't before and that is a question that I'd still like an answer to so that if I ever experience problems there again I know where to look to find a resolution.
