I'm in the process of rebuilding my site and putting it under CVS source control. It's heavily mod'ed and I've realized that mods without any source control are one-way. I wanted to upgrade some of the mods, but that's nearly impossible without being able to completely back out the original install. In any case, I diverge ...

Nearly all of my mods are in the forums, which always involve template changes. I only allow one theme right now because of this, and I want to provide more.

I'm using a combined theme and I've realized that the template files don't need to change between themes, just the forums.css and forums.cfg to match colors and images.

I know that I can apply a brute-force solution here and just duplicate the tpl files under each theme and customize the individual css and cfg files. However it would be much easier and cleaner to maintain a single tpl copy, say in modules/Forums/templates/whatever, and have the cfg and css pulled from the theme.

I know this is possible and I'm wondering if anyone is aware of a mod that exists to do this. If not, I'll probably write one.

Thanks,

Dave

Ok, so I kinda answered my own question. It looks like I can use the PHPBB styles feature to provide the css and cfg variations I want while using a common set of modules/Forums/templates/subSilver tpl files. I'll just remove the themes/mytheme/forums dir, and presto! No mod necessary. Now, if the betaNC subsilver tpl files were just updated like Helius and fisubsilversh are, hmmmmm (hint hint).
