I think it would be nice to offer avatars to uploaded...I wont have THOUSANDS for awhile, but what if I ever change my mind? Will people all lose their avatars???
ALSO - the reason this is a question, is because my linked Avatar just disappeared ! I checked the link and it was right, but anyway, regardless, I still want to know what will happen if I change.
thanks!!!

Well if you switch off the faility to upload the existing avatars would remain intact, there would be no option to change though (only back to one in the default options)
Avatars are generally tiny and given that most folks on a normal site are happy with one of the defaults it isn't really going to become that big a snowball that quickly.
I for one, try where ever possible to use my own, personal, avatar. I therefore prefer the option to link to offsite. Prob is as the red x's appear as missing avatars it looks tacky and, in ref to one of my previous posts, you deperately need one of these 'it's not my fault signs'.
The pro's and con's are for you to weigh up on what you expect on your own nuke site.

Well as webmaster I feel your responsible for all aspects of how the site is presented. Allowing people to have off site avatars is fine however what if these are removed/deleted?
What now appears on YOUR site is a little red x .. it would be nice if you could label it 'not my fault' as you have no control of that particular image... but alas .. if your site has enough members it is likely you wouldn't know about it for long enough.
All visitors seeing it might assume the error is in your code and your web site and personally that is what I see as the drawback of off-site.
