Hello folks,

I just upgraded my site from the regular 6.5 to the enhanced NC 6.5. I thought I would share the experience b/c some other noob, like me, Embarassed, might also be considering the upgrade.
Issues:

#1
I give my users a lot of choices about which theme to use (6 or so). However, the enhanced version only comes with 2 (helius and fisubsilver). My old 6.5 themes were not 100% compatible. For example, the PM system in the enhanced version will not work with your old 6.5 themes. (As an aside, a quick workaround for this problem is to add the buddylist.tpl files, the rank body.tpl, and the ropm quick relpy.tpl file that is included in the enhanced bundle to your old themes (copy them to the forum directory), there may be other files that need to be copied as well, but these are the ones I can think of right now...and that have allowed me to use PM on my old themes).

#2
As far as I know the quick reply will only work with the two enhanced bundled themes.

#3
The buddly list and forum ranks modules only work with the two NC bundled themes. Well not exactly...they work, but the url linking them is only located in the two enhanced bundle themes. Therefore, to use them you need to create a link somewhere else...I have added them to my user menu.

#4 Unless the above enhanced features become standard...in the next phpnuke versions, new themes will be difficult to integrate with out some extra effort.

#5 I think there were a few other things, I'll post them later.

Overall, I love this new version. It constitutes, IMHO, a significant improvement to the existing 6.5.

Thanks for your input, it certainly helps us to understand.

I installed 6.8 on my regular site that I downloaded from the Club, and this is my first time at setting up a nuke site. I installed it, since it was a newer version, and for the most part it has been working great for me with very little issues. Nothing that I'm not eager to jump in and figure out what is wrong and fix. (thanks to the forums for guidance on fixing all the problems Very Happy )

I installed the NC 6.5 bundle in a development subdomain, but found that I get errors with the forums (404 not found when clicking on forum topics), mainly because I can't use googletap I am pretty sure of. Mod Rewrite is on the apache server, but they won't allow rewrite rules to work in the .htaccess files for security reasons.

It might be nice to provide a way to remove GoogleTap from the NC Bundle, for those of us that cannot run it. If it's explained somewhere else how to remove it, point me in the right direction.

Hi, simply use the *.plain files in the GoogleTap folder. Use them to replace the real ones so that GT is disabled. All will then be well.

A qualified yes.

However, like I mentioned above, to get them working you need to install some extra files to the forum directory of each of your old themes. The files are:

Code:
the buddylist.tpl files (there's a few of them), rankbody.tpl, and ropmquickrelpy.tpl

These files are found in the forum directory of both the fisubsilver and helius themes/forum directory of the NC enhanced bundle (I think these files are generic and can be used in all themes). By installing these files the PM section works perfectly. What you will lose by using your old themes is the new quick reply feature (you just won't see the option). You will also lose the link to the buddy list module (also new) and the link to the forum ranks module (also new). However you can just add links to them in your main navigation menu like I have.

Oh and one more thing I forgot to mention above, you lose the board XL message feature (also new). However, this might just require copying another *.tpl file to your old themes forum directory. I just haven't figured out which one yet? Anybody?

You can test the forums on my site:

user name: ct dummy
password: test

I have a quick theme change block (bottom right). Hope this helps Smile

Now I recall.. someone spotted this earlier, and the answer was to copy those files to the other folders.

Modifying all Nuke6.5 and up themes to work with the NC bundled Nuke would not be relevant to everyone.
Not everyone will be using the NC bundle and for theme Authors to modify their themes to work with the bundle would not be a wise choice.

The only 2 options I see is for theme authors to MAYBE offer NC bundled version themes of their originals. This would still prove to be a lot of work for theme Authors. OR, My suggestion would be to include the directions with the bundle for Adding the hacks that are included in the bundle for users to add to their themes themselves. Wink

Well this clearly shows that a lot of effort is involved in keeping a bundle together. For everyone who does this stuff, my hats off to you. Smile
