I have been reading many posts regarding the speed of simple PHP/Nuke sites, but there seems to be nothing that has worked for me yet. I have tried:
1) removing all unused themes, modules, blocks, etc...
2) uploaded my site to a professionaly hosted server.
3) added a couple indexes to some of my tables that I found in some posts.
I am on Crappy Dialup with a connection speed of 33 kbps and it loads in .82 seconds for me, so You might need to check your internet settings, defrag and delete your cache. Then try it.

Here is a little more to my issue:
1.) My website works fine at my house.
2.) The website does not work (load is > 5 mins) at work.
3.) I am running windows XP professional with Home Directory and folder redirection turned on. Maybe the issue is with this setup???
4.) I can use my work laptop at home (offline) without any issues.
Man this is wierd and really annoying!!!

Sounds like a problem with your work connection - check the firewall settings and do a traceroute, it could be a connection problem
