I am having a hard time getting my hosting company to recompile php with gd jpg support. Is there away I can get around the picture code when loging on, in the mean time?

Is any other image type compiled in? If so, you can recreate the image as a GIF, PNG, or whatever is compiled in. There is code modification, then, of course.

I definitely would tell your host to take a hike. It's archaic for any installation to not have JPG support!
