There are some "tricks":

- have a nice layout so that people recognize it and read easily
- content, unique and good.
- offer something free, people love freebies
- index your site in the main search engines and directories: dmoz.org, google.com, yahoo.com, altavista.com .. the free indexing services. No need to pay.
- index to some others
- exchange links with few quality related sites. Don't overuse this since you could be considered a link farm, but few exchanges with some good sites will do you good.

Content guys. Create quality content at first, all the rest you'll get as free addition.

"something free, cartoons, humors, nudity pictures, match-makes, game clans" are good if you want to create something like "porn" site... with tonn of visitors, but only few of them will be useful.

See the simple examples.
We have a site with tonns of free stuff. We spend a lot for advertising, because it's a lot of similar sites. We easy have 10000 unique visitors per day. It's a lot of messages in forum. But all this empty, there are no a lot of good visitors. Probably 100 per day... We put banners on this site, and get about 50$ per month.
We do have another site. With unique quality content. We spend nothing for advertising, we have about 500 unique visitors per day. It's not a lot messages in forum. But this is something that web-master can call "quality visitors". We put banners on the site and get about 200$ per month.

So, quantity not always means quality.
Good and unique content are best and only way to get quality. Stop copy-pasting, importing news and other stuff. Create unique and good content, and peoples will copy-paste things from your site, leaving links to your site, and many visitors will came and attract their freinds.

A good signature that you can use on multiple forums.....not to big, or flashy, or profane, etc, etc.

No promises they will join your site, but lot's of folks will click the image just to see where it lead.....

These are all really great sugestions. I would also suggest buisness cards, a poster on campus if your in school. Getting friends and faimly to help kick your forums off ...and hopefully invite others as well, so that the site is busy and atractive. This also helps make the site sticky.
