need forum guidance

ok
i'm running a poker website in php Nuke
i want to be able to make it so anyone can register but only certain ppl i give perimission to be able to access certain part of the forums(as in being able to read the content) i could use a little help in the best way of doing this?

that's simple, utilize your user groups.

goto your phpbb admin page. on the left hand side 'Group Admin' is the fourth section down.

First you have to create the usergroup under the 'Managment' Section

Next you set the forum permissions for the entire group.

This method is nice & easy if you have a few different types of users and you can globaly set their permissions (IE. site admins, moderators etc)

so i can make it so no one can see the material unless there in one of these groups ??

exactly... you can even go further with it, and set the actual forum to "Private"[hidden] in the forum management section, and users won't even be able to see that forum (unless they are authorized)

Right now I have 4 types of users.

Public users : Can only view the "public" section
Site Members : Can view the "hidden" Members section & public section
Inner Council (moderators) : Can view all user areas & moderate
Administrators : can view all sections including admin sections & moderate & control

As you can see, each different group has a different level of access & authority

i was wondering what privte hidden meant
didnt know what any of those meant
what is reg hidden ?
so private is when registered ppl can't see it only if there in that group they can see it ??

Sorry, let me define the forum types..

Public : Anyone can view & post including anonymous "guest" users

Registered : Only those people that are registered can post, viewable "anon / guest" users.

Registered [hidden] : Only those people that are registerd can post, NOT viewable by "Anon / Guest" users

Private : only those people you set permissions to, can post, NOT viewable my Anon / Guest Accounts. IS viewable by registered users

Private [hidden]: Only those people you set permissions to, can post or view, NOT visible by Anon / Guest accounts, NOT viewable by registered users

Moderator & Moderator [Hidden] kinda the same as private, but only for moderators.....

All the above is and "I Think"

How do you ensure that guests can only view the whole forum and only registered users can post/reply??

In your forum permission, set view --> all but read --> reg. And then, exit out of "admin account" and "normal user account." Try to access and read the target forums. Just observe what happens?
