ok instead of beating something till i burst knuckles, i figued i would come ask for help here.
i have had a php site for over a year now, and for the last few months the site has slowed down drastically. i get page generations of 30.00 sec or more now, and its getting verry annoying. i know its not the providers fault, because i still can ftp and email and even post pages that dont use php to the site at lighning speeds. so it has to be a php problem. i have updated to 7.5 thinking that might help a bit, but to no prevail. i have protector and fortress installed. but like i said for a year it was lighning fast and superb. now i cant figure it out. ive opted the dbase, saved some room, did maintain on protector, took out just about all modules from the homepage or blocks, that would do a sql query, and that did help. so now im stuck. i know my dbase is not huge, its 9megs i believe, but i know peoples whos dbase is 5-6 time bigger than that, and thier site works fine.
ok as of right now its doing 1-2 sec generations, but this is only like for 5 min a day, the rest of the day it jumps to 30+ sec.

What about the servers mysql load? The other items you mentioned wouldn't call on the dbase.

In my experience you CANT tell is not your hosting service problem.
I had similar problems as well:
1) in a shared hosting service it may happens some other website screw up PHP with bad coding (loops, php chats, or other crap)
2) Sql queres: that's another common issue on shared hosting.
sometimes Mysql takes ages to reply. (again bad scripts, php chats, and so on).
