Well, I have been chasing this critter for some time and while there are several things that can be wrong, I have resolved 3 in as many days that defied all the other remedies. I think there is an error in PHP (GASP) and I will submit this to the boys at php.net once I can recreate it on my machine.
It seems that when E_NOTICE is on, even though the notices are not written to the screen, something is happening that the browser is getting a character or something. So, it gets confused and flushes/loops.
I would recommend that the first thing you try, from now on, is to set error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE in your php.ini
or PHP_VALUE error_reporting 2039 in .htaccess
And, it appears that output_buffering does not have to be on in these instances. Strange but odd, that's for sure!
I'm having the admin loop problem with php-nuke 6.7 installed on dot5hosting.com (i.e. no root access and no local copy of php.ini) running a LAMP environment. I have read all relevant posts and think I have eliminated all known potential causes including spaces in files after the closing php script tag, error reporting level and the self variable. The site is running from a subfolder off of the web root. Here are the addresses of the analyze, phpinfo and
conntest files:
The problem occurs with IE 6 lastest rev, but not Netscape 6.2.1.
I have a 6.5 installation running on the same account from the same database, also from a subdirectory rather than the web root, no problem at all (except for bbs migration issues from an earlier version - the upgrade scripts didn't do the job completely).
Any help would be appreciated.
All the Best

Did you apply the header fix for the Your_account module described in the Welcome Announcement?
Damn, I'm sorry, I cant find the post that help me fix this, but JOY! my admin loop problem is solv-ed. As soon as I turned off Zone Alarm, the admin loop stopped.
I don't have this problem with a version of 6.9 which has been upgraded incrementally from 6.0 - just the fresh install. I guess it might be worth looking at your Zone Alarm settings (or other firewall) - but thanks to whoever it was that suggested that in the Installation Help for newbies forum I think it was. It seems to me as if the Nuke Forums could do with a heavy prune, it's getting harder to find relevant results and too many people are discussing the same problems in different threads and different forums. imho

Well, I have an admin loop on 1 subdomain, while all others work fine. I even took a complete working system from another domain, and put it on the non-working subdomain, and it didn't help. Not the code, not the database.
Yesterday it was working fine, and then, at some moment in time, it just stopped working and the admin-login became the admin-loop thing...
*sigh*

//// New Member Here
Login Loop Bug Tracking and Possible Fix.
(I apoligize in advance if this has already been tried)
//// Login Loop
Ok, I've been trying to solve the "Login Loop" issue for myself and after doing exaustive searching of threads on the net and trying desperately to resolve the problem here is what I've come up with so far.
//// My Configuration
IE & Opera latest versions as of date, Zone Alarm latest versions as of date.
Tested on Win2k & XP (friend was receiving the problem on Mac unknown software versions)
Running phpNuke on some and postNuke on others.
All the latest versions as of date of this post all on Apache running on Win2kPro or RedHat Linux.
//// The Problem
The problems for me, seem to be coming from 3rd party/illegal cookies.
//// The Possible Bug
It looks like what happens is if the board config isn't set up correctly you get 3rd party cookies.
I'm getting one on my site from phpNuke.com in addition to those from my domain (on the phpNuke based sites).
This can also cause problems for those people on a host with multiple sub-directoried domains or people who tested their site in one location and then moved the domain (I.E. http:// testingdomain/phpNuke moved to http:// livedomain/phpNuke.
This can cause browsers to choke on the illegal or 3rdparty cookies if they're browser is not set up to allow them.
Additionally, Zone Alarm (and possibly other firewalls/privacy protectors) won't allow the 3rd party cookies to set if ZA isn't configured correctly.
So, when you login to Nuke as Admin (for example) you look as though your logged in correctly but as soon as you click on something Nuke looks for the set 3rd party cookie which isn't there and *boom*, back out to the login screen (maybe???).
I think this is why your seeing some people that reset their site or flush their cache or correctly redirect their domain that resolve the login problems for them, but for others this doesn't work.
So for some the bug resembles a cookie problem, or a bad Nuke install or firewall config.
Whereas for the rest of us these *fixes* don't seem to work.
//// Help!
I'd like to ask a member of the NukeCops team (or any helpful souls out there) to have a look at the standard build and find out if there, in fact, are cookies attempting to be set from multiple domains, etc.
I can't afford to tear apart my sites looking for this bug.
Maybe phpNuke/postNuke could try to centralize the "setcookie()" calls to one file (auth.php maybe???).
//// Fin
I'm not positive on all this but, I have been able to duplicate and fix or break the problem more than once by changing my browser & Zone Alarm configurations.
Hope this helps everyone.
Feel free to email me if you would like to test anything out.
