Dear all,
I'm wondering if any of you is using PHP-Nuke version 8.0. So far, all the previous versions have been free to everyone but PHP-Nuke 8.0 costs $12. You can see the following link for more details:
http://www.phpnuke.org/modules.php?name=Release
As I'm having problems with version 7.9, I'm considering buying it. Twelve dollars are not much but I thought PHP-Nuke is free and open source as it has been.
Any idea or suggestion ? Thanks. |

The cost is a membership fee so that you can access the "latest" version of php-nuke . If you wait, it will be available for free. That said, stay away from 8.0 as it is probably the buggiest version ever released (or close to it) I would recommend Raven's 7.6 distro . |

If you spend them in 8.0 you'll regret it every time you see a blank age (once every minute or so). |

Yep agreed... never buy the latest version. It is a bunch of untested, alpha code.
FB can charge to distribute it, under the terms of GNU/GPL. But others can take it and distribute it for free.
There are many sites that host it for free if you know where to look. |

I wouldn't even dare mention about having to pay a measly $12 for Nuke 8, I am using Nuke 8, which I updated from Nuke 6 and its fantastic. I have purchased a couple of Modules to add, a membership/subscription module, Points system module, CV module, html newsletter module and the total cost me no more than $60, and I have a website that would cost at least $10,000 to have built. My partner is a IT systems builder and has edited some of the modules to suit our particular needs.
We only launched this site in Oct 06, and are quickly becoming the no1. Australian Acting & Audition resources site with search engine rankings continually in the 1st 3 websites, and I believe apart from having a content rich site, it is the content management system that has enabled us to build very easily a fantastic website. And we are very quickly forging our way to be the leading site in Australian for up and coming actors and professional actors.
No matter what type of website you wish to have Nuke 8 is fantastic, I looked at most of the content management systems and found that this one is the easiest to customize & use, with Joomla coming a close second.
Spend the money its an absolute steal at any price.
A very happy supporter of Nuke 8, you can go to my site and check it out at http://www.dare2audition.com.au use this login to check it out fully

We are not Nuke-haters by-and-means.. but the improvements from Nuke 7.9 to 8.0 aren't really anything much. Take it from us, these "Club" releases aren't tested well.. often needs patching just to get them working right.
The differential from the last few releases... few improvements, more bugs, longer and longer times between releases. You might as well get the free 7.9 version, or better.. RavenNuke from http://ravenphpscripts.com
We don't recommend Nuke 8.0 because it isn't anything new, and its rather buggy. Besides, why pay when you can get open source software for free?
The power in phpNuke is certainly customization - glad you got a nice that's working great for you! |

I'm trying to find the link to purchase or download the Ravennuke app. Their site is soooooo full of info and sample blocks, they've forgotten the massive "BUY NOW" icon.
Can anyone point me to the link to purchase this release? I've been searching for 20 minutes now.... I'm sure it's right in front of me |

If you can wait a few weeks, a new release of RavenNuke is on the way with some great improvements...(free, of course, but donations gladly accepted!) |

You can do a fresh install to another database - or use a different prefix in your config.php file to put it in the same database. You would need to know how to export and import using something like phpMyAdmin. |

Thanks, I think i have a bit of an uphill battle ahead. I no longer know what format/version/point-in-conversion my DB is.
I'll dig around at ravenphpscripts.com, thanks! Hopefully i can find my way through my issues.
I'll likely do a fresh installation and then try to migrate the data i want across.
Does anyone know if there is any harm in running older version upgrade scripts in the process? I'm thinking of trying all of the upgrade scripts in order again, in case something was missed or failed.
many thanks for all of your help! |
