Hopefully I am posting this in the right section of the forum.
I've been running a phpnuke based site for 6 years and without the support of the people here at Nukecops I'm afraid I probably would have had to shut it down long before now. With your help I was able to increase the functionality and security of my site. Through this site I learned of the Chatserv patches and Nuke Sentinel and kept these up to date.
Alas, all good things must pass and even with the patches, my site was broken into and great chunks of my database deleted. Thank goodness for current backups!
The phpNuke community is fantastic and there are add-ons for virtually anything you can think of. Still, it is a shame that the person in charge of phpNuke isn't interested in the valuable advice offered by the people here. It is tiresome having to reaply patches in multiple upgrades of Nuke only to find that the next version still hadn't fixed the problem.
I don't know what people were talking about when they said it was slow. It handled a quarter million hits a month on my site without (many) problems, and it was a shared server. I did try to keep the blocks to a minimum and to keep it fairly graphic light, perhaps that helped. It handled a couple of slashdottings and being listed on Fark's main page a couple of times as well.
Still, after the last break in (not the first break-in, by the way, but the first that actually did damage) I have been forced to drop phpNuke. The switch to Mambo/Joomla was pretty simple given the amount of content I had collected in 6 years. PHPNuke was the best CMS for a long time, but has since fallen off the charts. It is still very powerful and feature-rich, but it's no longer safe to use. Not that any package is 100% safe, but other packages are maintained by people who value the community, by people who value security.
Thanks to Nukecops and the users here for helping me over the years! You people are what keeps phpNuke going. Not francisco.
Thanks for the support, its always nice to be appreciated.
And as Evaders said I too am not surprised and as much as I love nuke and hope that it continues, FB needs to take a serious look at the crap hes dishing out.
