Timing mysql queries

Previously, I recommended the use of "mytop" from unix shell to see a running tally of mysql queries.

(assuming you have shell access) there is a much better way to get detailed info on your mysql query execution. The details are here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/Slow_query_log.html

This is the code I used, but changed the path to log file:

log-long-format
log-slow-queries = /var/mysql/slow_queries.log

HUGE NOTE: make sure the log file that you specify is accessible to mysq daemon! If not, you would not get any warning and nothing would be in that log file. Use chmod /chown to make that happen. I created a log file, and did a chmod 777 on it (need to tighten that up later, but it got it working).
