On http://www.nukedgallery.net, i normally get approx. 5000 hits per day. now, with GT installed for several weeks, i received over 13000 hits yesterday, and as i type this, there are about 2 DOZEN googlebots crawling my site. how can i restrict it so that only one or two can crawl at a time? if i block all the googlebots, i'm guessing my google adsense ads will all turn to PSA ads, too....
is there any good middle ground here? they've been pounding my site pretty hard for 2-3 days now...

EDIT: is there some way to keep the googlebots from inflating my hit counter?

Georgiaguy,

I think it's normal that so much SE's are visiting your site, the GT-pages are google and other SE-friendly and google just likes them like sweet candy. Last month I lost about 1 gig to google bots but on the other site your site gets higher ranks on searches and becomes more popular. I think it's just the way it goes...

I think there is a way that the bots don't get counted in the hitcounter but what's the use? Your one and only stats that are reliable are your serverstats: uniques, visits and pages per visit....

greetings,

Bart

if you go to the page, you will see the site info block on the left, the counter is going nuts with all the GB's crawling my site...just wondering if there was a way to exclude them from the nuke stats....

well what you do it find a way to incorporate the areyouabot function from the sessions.php into the counter, basically create a statement saying it will only count a hit if it is not equal to areyouabot(); I don't know exactly where that needs to go right now, but that is what has to happen. Maybe with that guidance you can start taking a look somewhere and come up with something. If no one else can crack it, let me know and I will add it to the list Smile

my guess is in the header.php file, something like this:
Code:

include("includes/sessions.php");
if(!areyouabot()){
     include("includes/counter.php");
}
