How would I do this? I've been trying for hours and it's doing my head in Twisted Evil

Basically what I want is for the news module to pass the ID number of the news article being viewed to an "options" block.

How is this done? Do I have to create any new global values along the lines of $sitename?

Any and all help on this will be greatly appreciated.
