Nuke-TrackBack 0.10a Released
Add OnsRE: TrackBack Modification for PHP-Nuke

Today I have released the first version of my TrackBack enhancement for PHP-Nuke. It is the result of about one month of working in my leisure time, and I'm hoping that you'll agree that some of the features are okay. (If you're not sure what TrackBack is, you can read The Beginner's Guide To TrackBack).

I am very interested to hear feedback about your experience with this enhancement. Tell me what you like or don't like, and let me know if you have an idea for improving it in any way. Also, please report any bugs you happen to find.

I will incorporate the changes and post a new version as often as it makes sense to do so.

The current fetures include:

  • Meets all requirements of the TrackBack 1.1 specification (http://movabletype.org).
  • Send and receive TrackBack Pings.
  • Auto-discovery of TrackBack URLs to ping from URLs contained in posted content.
  • Embedded RDFs in TrackBack enabled Content allow blogging software to discover the ping URL for that content.
  • Ability to ping multiple TrackBack URLs per story or content unit.
  • E-mail notifications sent to Administrators, content Authors, and Informants when a TrackBack ping is received.
  • TrackBack request queue allows Administrators to retry failed TrackBack requests at a later date.
  • Duplicate TrackBack pings are prevented/blocked
  • Administration interface to configure global TrackBack settings, and manage inbound and outbound TrackBack pings.
  • Integration with existing News and Submit_News modules.
  • Administration functions on the TrackBack popup window for each article.
  • Support for GoogleTap-style URL rewrites.

Other TrackBack-enabled add-ons for PHP-Nuke are forthcoming, so stay tuned.

    P.S. I guess it works!

The above screen shot is from the page ("The Beginner's Guide To TrackBack") referred to in my article on the MovableType.org website. The best part is that it was pinged using the auto-discovery feature!

You can download the core Nuke-TrackBack library and the News module's modification package in the downloads section HERE.

Admin Note: Most wonderful advancement! I'll begin on getting this into nukecops.com for general all purpose testing. Then I'll include it in our 7.0 bundle going forward. Great work!

Update 10:22PM EST, TrackBack has been installed successfully at Computer Cops in our first test article here -- read it for details. Next step is to get it here on NC.

Glad to see the Nuke community finally taking notice of trackback! It's about time. Just remember, Trackback is a blogging tool, so it'll need to be integrated not only for stories/articles, but for Journal modules as well.
