PHPNUKE 6.9 Final released - almost 90 000 user: a milestone! |
|
Anonymous writes "Milestones ahead: phpnuke has got almost 90 thousand users (only a few hundreds left!).
Btw: Nuke is by far the most global network on the whole net ;-> Apart from the net itself! and is generally the best thing ever. ;->.
Now Franzisko releases Version 6.9! "It includes Forums upgrade to 2.0.5 from NukeCops, a highly requested feature to have graphic security code optional and totaly configurable from config.php file, and many more fixes and enhancements. This release closes the 6.x branch and opens the development of PHP-Nuke version 7.0. Enjoy this new release!"
NUKE, it is a synonym for a globalwork: Bridging Distance, Culture & Time! The Spirit of the Nuke-Community is one of the most impressive things i ever experienced! The Nuke group is stronger than ever before!
Admin Note: While everyone's opinion is respected, the last thing we need is yet another flame war started."

This is totally crap, FB just wants to earn money, he doesn't want to support the community, he doesn't want to help out people by installing a cvs system @ phpnuke.org.
FB'S new commercial license shows us again how stupid man kind can be. He asks 300 bucks for something he claims to be tha author. First of all, i'm in the community since 2001, i know what people contributed to nuke, and that's almost 70% of the code nuke is running today. FB'S is just doing crap since he decided to not work with the community anymore. He decided to be the god of nuke. One year after people were so angry at him, cause they saw how he was slowly but surely destroying what was left of the nuke. He removed all forums and comments cause he saw more and more developpers telling him what he was doing was crap. He told the community the bandwith lie, and said his server was crap so he had to shut down the forum. This is the most stupid thing i have ever heard. The comments are the most userfull tool in phpnuke, just a stupid person like FB would want to remove them.
Who wants to really cash 300 bucks of goodies @ amazon to pay FB, for something, he can get anywhere for free? We should start to create a good alternative distribution source for all new nuke releases.
Nukecops is on the right way. The CVS is really usefull. Nukecops is growing fast and has a good team. If nukecops would stop updating nuke, FB would be in great trouble, because all the fixes of the four latest versions were provided by nukecops. Nukecops will soon be strong enough to be the first site who could be a real alternative for phpnuke.org. When post-nuke was created by a bunch of people who did not want to support FB's stupid ideas, i really looked forward to it. Today Post-Nuke users change back to nuke, because the postnuke team did not include some good ideas into their code like the security code or phpbb. Nukecops with it's cvs and strong team, and main developper of phpbb port could start it's own nuke project. This project would be supported by the community.
I hate FB because i send him messages all the time to ask him to include the very good gender & birthday mod to your account. I have send him the pagenumbers script for the news, topics and categories. I have send him a tweak to add wysiwyg to the news, plus a scipt that allows you to splitt an artikel in multiple pages. FB knows there are plenty of great scripts out there, that just need to be included in nuke, like image galleries, an agenda, a guestbook, ....
Shame on you FB, you are the scum of OpenSource

You can have one soon, try <a href="http://www.nsnnuke.org" target="_blank"title='http://www.nsnnuke.org'> nsn nuke</a> [www.nsnnuke.org] wich is based on nuke 6.5 but hasmany core improvements and it includes stuff people requested (publically) for php-nuke but FB didn't include them.

What i really hate is that every time i update my site with a new nuke, i have to redo all my tweaks in the news. Could you please add a function to the news that allows you to divide your article in multiple pages. This feature is avaible in the content module of the original nuke but not in the news, nobody knows why? Perhaps only because FB doesn't need it, so he doesn't include it, but i think this feature is great. |

I don't said i don't want him to make money with nuke. There are many more or less lucrative ways for him to take profit out of nuke. He could sell webspace with special nuke features, he could write a book an sell it with nuke stuff, he could open a shop on his site an sell nuke stuff like t-shirts, he could launch a real nuke distribution system where people can buy nuke on CD with special tools an programms...
But what i said was that he could do a lot better job, then he is actually doing. I don't say he is not putting enough effort in it. I said that he should work more closely with the community to achive what we all dream of. There are too much innovations missing in nuke. The news system is really crap, but wih just some little modifications, like adding the pagenumbers, wysiwyg, multiple pages tweak and bookmark system, you could really enhance the news system. There are a lot of ideas on all the nuke sites on the net, but there is nowhere a place where it all comes together. I think we need that place, if FB's doesn't want phpbuke.org to be this place we will have to find a site who is strong enough to reunite the community FB destroyed.

Let FB see how many of these people are still active in the community. I run a message board and i deleted all inactive members "3 months no post" from database. I lost 33% of my board members. Let him do that and see his membership drop.
FB just wants to earn money, he doesn't want to support the community
I think the community should get together and work ona new version of nuke. NSN NUKE is doing that. Have each member of the community work on a Module, block or addon. That way we can make huge improvements over what FB has made.
FB is just a money hungary person. I sure if his server cost was so high with his almost 90000 members a dollar donation would cover it for years to come.
FB is making money off of Nuke Cops and all there work. FB releases a buggy CMS and here is Nuke cops to fix it for free with a side note thanks to Nuke cops for fixes.
ArtificialIntel was right to leave and join NSN Nuke. 3 CHEERS FOR ArtificialIntel
Nuke Cops Should get on the right CMS and support NSN Nuke.
Without Nuke Cops phpnuke would go back to that buggy CMS it use to be. |

I get tired of the moaning about FB, but after reading the commercial license, I can't resist. The commercial licence is yet again another spit in the face by FB to the hundreds of contributors that make PHP-Nuke a success. I thought I knew what the commercial license is, but, I was wrong. I'm not a lawyer, but I don't believe that FB has acted within his rights to sell the "commercial" license to PHP-Nuke which is GPL. There are several copyrighted contributions that FB has no right to remove the copyright from in the code, especially the phpBB code. I should know since a few of my fixes to PostNuke and posted here in bugs section are in PHP-Nuke.
Fortunately, although FB has mentioned ditching the GPL several times, his hands are tied. The base code from Thatware was released under the GPL, and many of fixes and changes from the Nuke 5.0 releases includes PostNuke code, which is also released under the GPL.
I've been working within the "Nuke" community since 1999, and very little has changed. Here's how it goes. FB reaches a point where he wants to get out of developing PHP-Nuke, or he just says he is to get the gushing response from several of the users. This, unfortunately for him, includes several suggestions for him to get some help, and open the development process by doing something. In the past this has included a few developers' mailing lists, the first official development team, public beta's, and others. Eventually, someone makes a comment regarding his lack of regard for the users, his support or lack thereof, for the GPL, opening a CVS, his lack of leadership, secrecy regarding his changes, etc. Many times these comments are fairly innocent suggestions. Sometimes, they've been a little more forceful. Many times these emails are not public and limited to developers only. Eventaully, he flips out, shuts down the developers' resources, flames them again and again on his site, and takes all the changes and adds them to PHP-Nuke, without giving credit, of course. And the users let him off, time after time. At least, so far, FB has been giving everyone here credit, so, maybe, things have changed, but I won't hold my breath.
