djmaze writes "When your using a browser you like (like Mozilla or Opera) instead of the Micro$oft IE (which you need to patch each week) you can have trouble on some websites.
Those websites say things like: Warning your not using IE and our website is optimized for IE.
or: Your can't view this website thru a other browser then IE
Here's the solution if you still wanna browse over such a lozer website:
http://chrispederick.myacen.com/work/firefox/useragentswitcher/
This nifty plugin allows you to "fake" IE so that websites don't have a clue and you still can see the pages.
If the webpagemaker thinks he can build a ActiveX website with ad-ware or any kind of other shit, your still safe "

I think personal opinions should be kept out of news posts.
And that when referring to a company, regardless if you like them or not: Write their name properly.
I don't want to start a flame war, but people should use common sence.
Sorry for the post, but I just sick of seeing this kind of stuff all over the net.
Bye, and have a nice day (with whatever browser you enjoy using) |

And though I am using Opera/Firebird/Netscape + others as well on a regular basis (to make sure our web site and programs work well), as long as IE has the biggest market-share and user-base, I will keep on using this as my main web browser.
We all know about IE's idiosyncrasies, its security issues, etc. but let's face it, MS has the lion's share of the market. If other browsers are just as good or even better (as many claim), then it surely will be just a matter of time until IE is outclassed??
Well, I am still waiting ... and will be using my IE until then! All flames to /dev/null/ please ;-) |

Re: Annoying IE websites (Score: 1) by marcoledingue on Monday, April 26 @ 05:12:25 CEST (User Info | Send a Message) http://marcoledingue.free.fr | well, there is a very good reason why IE has 90% (95% ?) of the market !
==> 95% of computers are shipped with MS Windows, which is bundled with IE !
how many people will bother trying to find an alternate browser ?
How many people know that there are other browser than IE and Netscape (ok, and AOL)? not a lot i think!
i'm quite certain that IE's market share will last for a few years... at least.
by the way, Opera has the ability to "trick" websites : you can set the User-Agent to IE and different versions of Mozilla. (it's in the preferences) |

Of course it will not work on my Linux box, but for my Windows box, there is nothing else I would rather use. I love how easy it is to set up filtration rules in Outlook Express, and I like the additional toolbars, like the one Google puts out. I do have Netscape and Opera installed for work-to-browser comparison reasons, but my day-to-day browser is, and probably will continue to be, Internet Explorer.
And my shameless plug : http://www.iespell.com/ This little tool will spell check your forms. A very nice thing to have. |
