I have a guy posting what looks like links to other sites in the comments of the articles on my main page. I have gone in and deleted all of these and disabled comments but the guy is still hitting my site. I am banning his IPs as I see him but what else can I do. Also what exacly is it that he is doing? Whatever he posts is in spanish and the links goto to blog page. What exactly is the purpose of him doing this?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello,

It is spamdexing, an illegal action to be better viewed in SE by links, see for details http://www.serp.teleactivities.com/modules.php?name=Online_Advertising-MM&page=Spamdexing.html.

You have more options: to moderate or completely eliminate the option of comments from Preferences, to use Nuke Sentinel, or to censure the domain names used by that guy. There are many others too, depending on the options and experience of everyone.

moxiac my site had slowed to a crawl when refreshing pages. It was like trying to use a piss poor dialup connection for everyone. Since I have found this guy and started eliminating him the site is back up to very fast speeds. So far that has been the most noticeable change in the last 48 hours or so.

Thanks for the info sfetcu. I am currently running sentinal and updated it to the latest while dealing with this guy. I did have some things in sentinel turned off since someone had told me that this could have been causing the delays in my site. That may have been the door he needed to get in on me.

I was hit too.

I have since disable anonymous posting in the preferences. It works as only registered users are allowed to post comments.

a-amp still keep an eye on things. I had anon posts disabled already so this guy simply created about half a dozen different accounts over several weeks to post to comments with. End result was I had to disable comments totally.

I don't suggest deleting usernames of Spammers or Trolls. Because then they can just go in and re-create those accounts. For banning members, this it what I do:

I will ban the member's IP address and orriginal e-mail address (So they can't go in later and create new usernames.)
I will then change the member's e-mail address to an @(yoursite).com address, and change the user's password so they can't log into their account and can't have their password e-mailed to themselves.
I will then also change the member's rank to "Banned"
Then edit or delete the offending posts.

May be you need to enable the security code. If the spammer is a bot, it will have a hard time registering.
