Want fewer news articles on home page

I have searched the forums and found that I can change my own max articles in home page to five by going to "Your Account" http://nukecops.com/postlite45171-moving+articles.html

I would like to change it for all the people who are already registered on my site. The default of 123 or whatever it is, will just make the site look untidy for the current members. I'd also like to make that the default for new members.

It would be cool if I could just click on old articles and make them expire. Oh well, any help is appreciated.

You can manually disable news from being posted in home by going into the admin panel and at the bottom, edit the news you dont want to show on the main page and in that edit panel select the news to have a diferent catagory other then "articles" , then right below that select the news to not be published in home.

But I do want news to be the default module in the main page, as it is. However, I only want 5 articles to be on the main page. After I publish a new story, I'd like the oldest one (the fifth article) to go into the archives.

Do you understand?

Go to the admin panel select preferences and change these settings the way you want them.

Number of Items in Top Page:

Stories Number in Home:

Stories in Old Articles Box:

Add news page hack.
Then just change $num of news in the hack.

Thanks, but news page hack is not what I want.. I want the old stories to go to the old articles block. Not to a new page.

Also, changing the preferences in admin only set up the way the page will look for guests. All my current members will still end up with hundreds of old stories in a big list.

I want to change it for old members to five stories per page with the old articles ending up in the block..

Each member has their own personal setting in their home. If you want to overwrite it, you will have to do so in the users table of your database

OK, I can see it.. Unfortunately I've got 104 members. Will I have to go in and change each one at a time? Is there a quicker way? Each one reads 10 and I'd like to change it to 5.

Also, can I edit something so that each new user only has 5 stories set as the default, the rest in the old article box?

You can do a query to affect all members
