Firstly, many thanks to HalJordan and the other very helpful people here, with who's help I wouldn't have got AS installed correctly. Laughing Razz Laughing Razz

Now i've got it installed i'm busy uploading dozens of .txt files containing a huge list of banned ip's (obtained here).

What i'm wondering is if its worth me doing this if i've already got all these ip addresses in my host.deny file which is placed in my server root.

Or will the host.deny be ok on its own.

Thanks.

Host deny list highly recommended because it's manages by server and absolutely faster than IP Ban provided by Admin Secure. You can periodically add banned IPs catches by Admin Secure into your host deny list. If you haven't much time to manage all of this, let Admin Secure collect all banned IP addresses, and later you may create a .htaccess file to reject all those IP.

Personally, I run both. They approach security from slightly different angles. AS concentrates on the admin side and Sentinel secures the overall site, though each in a way duplicates the protection of the other. Some sites also run Protector. I recently installed all three for a client whose site got hacked by script kiddies. They seem to work well together.
