I originally thought this behavior was a result of my editing, but I noticed that the same happens on NukeCops so perhaps it is a feature that never got properly finished (or has been messed up by updates).
I didn’t find a relevant topic already for this, so I’ll post just in case someone has already addressed this and can point me in the right direction.
If you click on a Read More link at the bottom of a news article, the page opens with the full story. The right hand column is present and in mine (and NukeCops) are blocks labeled “Related Links, “Article Rating”, and “Options”. My concern is the Related Links block. It says something like More About topic and News by author. The properties of the links are something like
But clicking on the link simply opens the standard search box. One would expect to be presented with a listing of all results of searching by Topic or Author.
I’ll start digging into this tonight, but does anyone have input?

I think this is an unfinished version of news up to 7.8 .I also have the same problems . Only click the search and go to standard search page.
It wants you to type in a search term that it will serch for based on the username / topic you select. I really don't post news that often so not really a big deal for me. But, you get what you pay for I guess.

Well, I fixed that problem, only to encounter another. Apparently the code I'm trying to post triggers NukeSentinel, which accuses me of trying a script attack- sigh. (even tho I use the BBCode for code).
So, I had to make a text file, zip, and upload to my site. I really hate that because you can't actually read the answer here, and it's something that I feel should be fixed in the next set of updates.
Sorry, but oh well.
You can find the file at
To give you an idea of where to look (if you don't want to or can't download the text file), I'll post my original post attempt minus the code:
This is first chance I had to get back to this. I saw someone had responded, and when I read the post above I had a Eureka moment.
You are absolutely correct. The Search (module) wants an input for a query. So we just need to pass a wildcard from the Related Links link to the Search page. But alas, the Search module does not support a wildcard and it also requires a minimum of 3 characters. I did notice that if you hit the space bar three times (in the search term box), it works like a wildcard. So you can hit 3 spaces, choose an author, and you’ll get everything by that author- which is what we are looking for.
So…to keep editing to a minimum and simple all I did was in modules/News/articles.php find the links for the Related Links box. Around line 185:
Add a value for query- you have to use the word query, but the value can be anything >3 letters. I used 4 asterisks.
Here is the new code:
Now, in modules/Search/index.php we need to fake out the query. I did it this way and it works. Around line 24 find:
And make it like this:
Tada. Now the Related Links work like they should.
I should mention this is not the best fix. For one thing you will notice the ...more box at the bottom of the search results will list everything. It would be best to actually check for a value from the Related Links link and if it is present have a separate db query and result page. My method was just easier and quicker for a novice like me.
