EDIT: I am still having avatar issues, but see later posts below for the current ones. I switched versions of Nuke to Raven Nuke 7.6 and now have extra "/gallery/"'s added to the path of my blank.gif img src.

Deactivating the "gallery avatar" option seems to take care of it.

When a new user logs in, an unpleasant dead image is visible here:

On my FTP site, the place it's pointing is:

It also happens on the forum page, though only in IE but not Firefox:

It looks like the default avatar picture is pointing to the avatars directory, but not any image within it (like blank.gif as I'm guessing it should).

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening or how I can correct it? This is a pretty fresh 7.9 installation.

I've tried suggestions from a 2004 thread here:
http://nukecops.com/posts30037-0.html

but had no luck.

Thanks for any help,
Mike

FYI, Chris Karakas had this to say:

Quote:
I saw your site with Mozilla nad all looked well. On the other side, there is indeed an image with source

modules/Forums/images/avatars/

in the HTML code. This image does not seem to displayed in Mozilla, but obviously it IS displayed in IE. When I try to "outline images" in Mozilla (I have a plugin for this Cool ), that image is not even outlined. It looks as though Mozilla does not take it into account, as if it does not exist...

Generally, an URL with a slash at the end, like

modules/Forums/images/avatars/

is interpreted by the web server as "go get the index.html file in that directory and serve it to the client". So the "image" would be

modules/Forums/images/avatars/index.html

which exists, but is empty.

So an empty image source file causes Mozilla and Firefox to totally ignore the image (not even display a "broken image" or an "empty image"), while IE (IMHO correctly) displays a broken image.

To me, it's a PHP-Nuke bug. It should not create images with such wicked source files. Rolling Eyes

Any fix?

What version are you using? The latest ones will automatically change the image to blank.gif

Also there is no log out option in the user info block, any easy way to add this?

Ok let me revisit this topic.

I'm on Raven Nuke 7.6 now, and the same issue arises. Everything goes fine until I attempt to upload an avatar. Prior to doing so, blank.gif is referenced and loaded fine. However, once an avatar is uploaded, it starts pointing just to the directory.

On 7.9, the avatar uploaded fine and showed for that user (with dead image and the bad img src code for all others).

On RN7.6, the avatar didn't make it to its destination directory (checked by FTP - don't know why this is happening), but irrespective, dead images and bad image sources started showing after doing this.

I've deactivated avatars for now to stay safe, but this is beyond bizarre. Why me? Confused

What is the avatar path in the Forums Configuration and is it CHMOD 777 ?

CHMOD is fine now.

With RN7.6, it seems to be a traditional path error, with extra "/gallery" added to the blank.gif img src in Your Account.

Here is the avatar code in Your Account:

Code:

    if ($userinfo['user_avatar_type'] == 1) {
       $userinfo['user_avatar'] = $board_config['avatar_path']."/".$userinfo['user_avatar'];
       } elseif ($userinfo['user_avatar_type'] == 2) {
       $userinfo['user_avatar'] = $userinfo['user_avatar'];
       } else {
       $userinfo['user_avatar'] = $board_config['avatar_gallery_path']."/".$userinfo['user_avatar'];
       }

I suck with code. Can someone modify that so that the default avatar will be "modules/Forums/images/avatars/gallery/blank.gif" instead of "modules/Forums/images/avatars/gallery/gallery/blank.gif"?

Thanks a tonne.

I had the same problem.

Try this:

Remove "/gallery" from the end of the gallery path and you should be golden. If not... someone here should have another option.

If you don't know how to do this... follow these directions:

Login to www.YOURSITENAME.com/modules/admin (of course change YOURSITENAME to the domain name of your website Laughing )

Go down to "General Admin" and click on "Configuration "

Make "Avatar Storage Path" /modules/Forums/images/avatars
and "Avatar Gallery Path" /modules/Forums/images/avatars
