The frapper code is pretty nice - but any port is messy. IFRAME elements are OK, but the fact you have to use their site then come back to view your map . . anyway

Here is the 1.1 release.

http://www.blind-summit.co.uk/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=6

It contains a simple update from the initial public release and it's so simple to install. You need to run the SQL command contained in the readme.txt

You can see my running version here:

http://www.blind-summit.co.uk/modules.php?name=Map

I hope to add a few more features soon such as an admin interface and proper installer as well as an option to use variaous pointers.

I have heard that there may be issues displaying hundreds of pointers on the map - but again, I'd like to improve on this. Let me know what you think and anything I can improve. This is really only my 2nd module that I have written so be nice Smile

Hope this will help you out

Alex

I want to use it to also notify people of fish store locations. Each person would essentially be able to add locations for different stores. Members would be a red pin, stores blue, etc. Is this doable? I know I can do it with frappr, but it's excruciatingly slow at times and I'd rather not have people leave my site if possible.

Any ideas how to strip the ' " º characters when bringing back profile details? It stops the map from loading and when you have quite a few pins on there it takes a while to go through and see who's profile is messing it up.

Cheers,

WG

I can add that code in and pop out a release. The only data it displays from the user input is their username and location. I'll get that out asap. Thanks for the support and your feedback. It's great for this to be my second module (first publicly released one) and to be able to help everyone out.

Enjoy

Thanks for all of your work. Is it possible to:

1)Give a user the capability to enter multiple points? I want to be able to post pet stores in my area.

2)Have different pins/markers? Maybe one for stores, different color for members, different color for areas of interest, etc.

thoughts?

Very nice module indeed, I love it and so do my members.

I have a couple of suggestions for the next release:

1- It would be nice for members just to enter a zip code or a city for their location instead of scrolling through the map and finding their location. Frapper does this nicely.

2- Color coded pins ( ex: green=male yellow=female blue=restaurants etcc...) with a legend at the bottom that tells you which is which.

3- Members being able to submit a location besides their own location like a restaurant or business.

4- An option where you will force members to enter their city or zip code during registration, and that gets translated into their location on the map.

Hey everyone - thanks for the feedback. I've been a bit busy recently with exams, but I can now get back to work on my code.

Just to run through a few points and feedback:

1. I am going to implement multi-language support as we are going international on this one :p

2. The feature for users to add locations seems popular so I will add that in. I already have some code for that running on my site - but left it out in the first few releases

3. The user marker options - such as colour coded pointers etc will be added. I will also take the sql away from the nuke_user table and give it it's own table just so everything is in one place

4. As for the zip code and forcing this on registration - some people may not like their locations displayed so I would rather keep this optional. Another big issue with this is that you would all have to get hold of a big old sql file to enter thousands of rows of geographic locations -> ZIP code data and this is not so great.

Personaly I would have loved this - also to include an IP to Geo location but again the IP / Location databases are big and not always free.

Being honest - I have not looked into this last point very much - so maybe there is a sensible solution, but please let me know of your thoughts and any ideas you have.

Thanks for your support

Alex

Sorry about that - I should have added it in the readme.

The "Useful Locations" function was something that I had left in from my own site where I simple added the locations into the database manually. I will work on some code to allow people to add locations

Any luck on making the changes? I found a great example of what I'd like to have, but I'm very appreciative, so I'll take whatever you can do.
