.htaccess files

I can not upload the ".htaccess" files to my FTP .... I am new to this and not sure what to do ... will php-nuke work without these files?

.htacess files are generaly hiden files .. Your ftp client should upload them without any problem you just won't be able to veiw them with your FTP client browser .. Best way to access them and edit or veiw them is thru your controll panel of your web site/ file management
some FTP clients also have a setting to view hiden files you may check for that setting

its not that these files are hidden, it rejects them, I can not upload a file that begins with "."

Name it to something like 'htaccess' and then upload. Rename it on the server back to '.htaccess'

I was able to upload the file after renaming it but cant rename it to .htaccess on the server

I would talk to your host then, see if they allow .htaccess files. There's nothing we can do.
